There are disclosed a general middleware bridge supporting an interoperability operation between devices on different middlewares and a method thereof. The general middleware bridge according to the present invention includes: a conversion rule collector collecting message conversion rules for an interoperability operation between different middleware devices; a conversion rule register registering the message conversion rules for each message type; and a message converter interconverting messages from the middleware devices on the basis of the message conversion rules and transferring the converted messages for each message type.

In order to set a path from a source device to a target device and to clearly control reservation of network resources for setting the path, the UPnP QoS network system includes: one or more UPnP QoS execution devices collecting and providing network status information and performing QoS for a service requested by reserving network resources based on path information and resource reservation information; and one or more UPnP QoS management devices acquiring and providing the path information and the resource reservation information to the UPnP QoS execution device by considering a QoS rank for the requested service and the network status information provided by the UPnP QoS execution device. Accordingly, since the path calculated by the UPnP QoS management device is the same as the path through which the UPnP QoS execution device reserves the network resources, it is possible to reserve suitable network resources and to provide stable QoS.

Provided are a system and method for automatically setting up configurations of a home network. The system includes a setting information manager, placed within an individual home, for collecting and managing setting information associated with configurations of the home network. The setting information manager shares the setting information with a remote setting information management server or another setting information manager. Since customized setting information of an individual home is shared, setting information of home network configurations can be effectively managed, thereby reducing costs and efforts required for maintenance and repair of the home network.

Provided is a home network connection management system using UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) and VLAN (Virtual LAN) multicast. The home network connection management system includes a UPnP-VLAN interfacing section for receiving requests of registration of VLAN and multicast addresses from a UPnP device in response to connection establishment commands from a connection manager, a VLAN managing section for registering the VLAN and multicast addresses in a VLAN mapping table according to connection establishment request from the UPnP device through the UPnP-VLAN interfacing section, the VLAN mapping table for matching and storing the VLAN and multicast addresses under the control of the VLAN managing section, and an Ethernet device driver for retrieving the VLAN and multicast addresses from the VLAN mapping table in response to TCP/IP data from an outside, forming the received TCP/IP data into VLAN frames, and transmitting the VLAN frames.

The user interface apparatus includes: a button input unit for sensing activation of a button; a wireless communication unit for transferring a control message through a wireless network to control electronic appliances; and a controlling unit for sensing a button activation pattern, creating the control message with the button activation pattern and user information, and transmitting the control message to a device controlling apparatus through the wireless communication unit to control corresponding electronic appliances according to a time/environment based user pattern.
