A gas-liquid rotating coalescer includes first and second sets of one or more detent surfaces on a rotary drive member and a driven annular rotating coalescing filter element which engagingly interact in interlocking mating keyed relation to effect rotation of the coalescing filter element by the rotary drive member. Designated operation of the coalescer requires that the coalescing filter element include the second set of detent surfaces. A coalescing filter element missing the second set of detent surfaces will not effect the noted designated operation.

A coalescer includes fibrous media capturing droplets of the dispersed phase, coalescingly growing the droplets into larger drops which further coalesce and grow to form pools that drain, and adapted to reduce pressure drop thereacross by increasing dispersed phase drainage therefrom.

A filter assembly is described that includes a unique seal configuration between a filter and a housing. The filter has a filter media that allows fluid to be filtered therethrough, and has an endplate with an opening that allows fluid to flow into or out of the filter media. The endplate has a main surface with an elliptical spud protruding outward from the main surface and surrounding the opening. An oval seal is disposed about an outer surface of the elliptical spud. The housing is releasably connected to the filter, and has a mounting component. The mounting component has an elliptical boss that mates with the elliptical spud and seals against the oval seal.

An inertial gas-liquid impactor separator has a de-icer for preventing ice accumulation at the acceleration nozzles. A heater heats a nozzle plate to minimize plugging of acceleration nozzles otherwise due to icing.

A coalescer has variable characteristics including variable diameter of individual fibers along their length such that an individual fiber has differing diameters at different points along its length, and including variable porosity.

Variable coalescer

A coalescing filter assembly having an upstream chamber, a downstream chamber, and a weephole connecting the upstream chamber to the downstream chamber. The downstream chamber includes a coalescing filter to filter a flow of gases. A passageway may be implemented between the upstream chamber and the downstream chamber to accommodate the flow of gases therethrough, while the weephole enables liquid to seep from the upstream chamber to the downstream chamber. In this manner, the weephole reduces liquid pooling in the upstream chamber without substantially compromising the efficiency or performance of the coalescing filter. A drain may connect to the downstream chamber to drain liquid collected therein.
