An image forming apparatus including: a body housing; a paper feeding unit accommodated in the body housing and providing a recording medium; an image forming unit accommodated in the body housing and forming an image on the recording medium; a fixing unit accommodated in the body housing and fixing the image formed by the image forming unit; and a cooling unit including a channel including an inhalation part and a discharging part which are formed in the body housing for air to flow, extending between the inhalation part and the discharging part and formed adjacently to the fixing unit, and an air purification module installed in the channel and generating ions reacting to foreign substances in air traveling through the channel to purify the air, and discharging heat generated in the fixing unit to the outside.

A gas purifying apparatus oxidatively decomposes and discharges impurities such as flammable hydrocarbons (CH) contained in gas generated from a toner by fixing an image. An image forming apparatus having a gas purifying apparatus, and a method of purifying gas of the image forming apparatus are also provided. The gas purifying apparatus comprises a fan unit for ventilating air, a heating unit for heating the air ventilated by the fan unit, a catalytic unit for facilitating oxidative decomposition of impurities contained in the air, and an ozone generation unit located upstream of the heating unit and the catalytic unit in the air flow direction. By providing the ozone generation unit for facilitating the oxidative decomposition reaction by the catalytic unit for impurities contained in gas generated by fixing an image, the gas purifying rate can be improved and by minimizing the reaction area of catalyst oxidizing impurities, and reducing the manufacturing costs.

The temperature sensing unit senses upper and lower atmospheric temperatures of the oxidation catalyst filter. A controller of the wet-type electrophotographic image forming apparatus having the oxidation catalyst unit then compares data on the upper and lower atmosphere temperatures sensed by the temperature sensing unit with input reference data to judge the life span of the oxidation catalyst.

An image forming apparatus includes a photosensitive medium on which an image is formed. An intermediate transfer medium is disposed to contact the photosensitive medium and to rotate in a closed loop, and onto which the image formed on the photosensitive medium is transferred. A transferring and fusing unit is disposed to contact the intermediate transfer medium. The image formed on the intermediate transfer medium is transferred onto a printing paper and the transferred image is fused onto the printing paper. A cooling unit is disposed inside of the intermediate transfer medium to cool a backside of the intermediate transfer medium to in turn cool the intermediate transfer medium.

The oxidation catalyst unit comprises a duct connected to the fusing unit to guide the carrier vapor generated in the fusing unit into the oxidation catalyst unit, a fan for guiding the carrier vapor into the duct, and a controller for varying a velocity of the fan according to data.

An oxidation catalyst unit for a wet-type electrophotographic image forming apparatus which filters a vapor produced at a fusing unit and a method thereof are provided. The oxidation catalyst unit and method includes a duct for guiding the carrier vapor produced at the fusing unit into the oxidation catalyst unit, a heater for heating the carrier vapor being guided along the duct, an oxidation catalyst carrying medium disposed behind the heater for catalyzing an oxidation reaction of the carrier vapor guided along the duct, and an absorbent filter for preventing entry of the carrier vapor into the oxidation catalyst in the form of liquid drops.
