Disclosed is a method for enhancing print quality by adjusting a print density of a printer according to changes in the environment. Threshold tables having different threshold values corresponding to different environments of a printer engine are stored in the printer and the printer itself can perform a halftone process. According to the method, print data to be printed are first received and stored when a print operation command is received. Then, present environmental state information is received from the printer engine. Corresponding to the present environmental state information, a threshold table is selected among the threshold tables. Thereafter, the lightness of the print data is determined through the selected threshold table and the halftone process is performed. Then, the print data that is image-processed through the halftone process is transmitted to the printer engine to be printed.

Method for adjusting print density in a printer

A debugging device in an apparatus having a scanning and printing function includes: an input unit for inputting a defects tracing mode and for selecting a function; a facsimile machine driving unit for driving a facsimile machine to transmit and receive facsimile data and generated operating status messages of the facsimile machine; a printer driving unit for driving a printing unit to print data and generated operating status messages of the facsimile machine; a storing unit for storing the generated status messages; and a processing unit for replying a defects-generated job, storing the generated messages in the storing unit, and outputting the stored messages according to the selection of the function. The debugging device in an apparatus having a scanning and printing function generates status messages according to running states of the scanning and printing system. Generally, the generated messages are ignored in cases where defects are not generated. However, the generated messages are stored in a memory by setting the defects tracing mode, and are accessed by an operator, if necessary, in cases where defects are generated.

Technique for debugging scanning and printing system

Disclosed are a multifunctional apparatus equipped with a jam recovery device and a selective jam recovery method. The multifunctional apparatus has an image forming unit enabling the apparatus to record image data onto a recordable medium. The multifunctional apparatus can record two types of data. When a page of a first type of data is stored in a page queue processor of the multifunctional apparatus and starts to be recorded onto a first page of a recordable medium, the page queue processor deletes the page of the first type of data according to whether the first page of the recordable medium has been successfully discharged from the multifunctional apparatus and, importantly, also according to a condition of a discharge error recovery function. However, when a page of a second type of data is stored in the page queue processor and starts to be recorded onto a second page of a recordable medium, the page queue processor deletes the page of the second type of data according only to whether the second page of the recordable medium has been successfully discharged, and not according to the condition of the discharge error recovery function. In other words, the page queue processor deletes the first type of data according to a condition of the discharge error recovery function. Whereas, the page queue processor deletes the second type of data without regard to the condition of the discharge error recovery function. When the page of the recordable medium is discharged successfully, the corresponding data is definitely removed from the page queue processor.

A data transmission method for a host and a data reception method for a multifunction device are disclosed. Data of one mode are received from the host even when the multifunction device performs in a specific mode and returns again to a previous mode after reception of the data in the one mode, thereby providing no damage to the operation in the previous mode. The data transmission method for a host connected to a multifunction device includes the steps of: detecting the mode of the multifunction device corresponding to data in response to a data transmission command to the multifunction device; transmitting a signal indicative of the detected mode to the multifunction device; and transmitting the data to the multifunction device after transmission of the signal.

An image forming device using an engine for performing a print operation, an engine controller which determines the state of the engine and generates an engine state signal, and a video controller which receives the engine state signal and determines whether data transmitted from a computer is to be received or not based on whether the engine state signal is indicative of a normal state, an abnormal state which can be recovered from, and an abnormal state which can not be recovered from. Data to be printed is received from the computer when the engine state signal is indicative of a normal state and an abnormal state which can be recovered from; data to be printed is not received from the computer when the engine state signal is indicative of an abnormal state which can not be recovered from. Received data is changed into bit map image, and during a normal state or when the abnormal state of the engine is completely recovered from during check of the engine state, the bit map image is output to the engine for printing.

A novel band printing method of a page printer for preventing band overrun error during printing. The band printing method of a page printer includes the steps of receiving print data corresponding to one page from a host computer, transforming received print data of one page into a plurality of individual bands of print data, converting received print data of each band into a corresponding symbolic command, determining a conversion time for converting the symbolic command of each band into bit map data for band printing, sequentially comparing the conversion time of each band with a given standard time, pre-processing and storing the symbolic command of each corresponding band followed a first band that has the conversion time exceeding the given standard time in a pre-process area of a memory, converting the symbolic command of the first band into bit map data and printing the bit map data of the first band on a paper, determining whether the symbolic command of each band following the first band has been pre-processed, printing the pre-processed bit map data stored in the pre-process area of the memory on the paper when the symbolic command of the corresponding band following the first band has been pre-processed, and converting the symbolic command of the corresponding band into bit map data and printing the bit map data on the paper when the symbolic command of the corresponding band following the first band has not been pre-processed.
