Provided are a catalyst composition comprising a bidentate ligand, a monodentate ligand, and a transition metal catalyst and a process of hydroformylation of olefin compounds, comprising reacting the olefin compound with a gas mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide while being stirred at elevated pressures and temperatures in the presence of the catalyst composition to produce an aldehyde. The catalytic composition demonstrates the high catalytic activity and option control of selectivity to normal aldehyde or iso aldehyde (N/I selectivity) to a desired value.

Disclosed is a shell-and-tube reactor that may be used for fixed-bed catalytic partial oxidation, the reactor being characterized by including at least one reaction zone of a first-step reaction zone for mainly producing unsaturated aldehydes and a second-step reaction zone for mainly producing unsaturated acids, wherein at least one reaction zone of the above reaction zones comprises two or more catalytic layers; each of the catalytic layers is packed with a formed product of catalyst that is different in pore density and/or pore size in a catalytically active component; and the pore density and/or pore size is controlled in such a manner that specific surface area of the catalytically active component increases from the inlet of the reactor to the outlet of the reactor. A method for producing unsaturated aldehydes and/or unsaturated fatty acids from olefins using the same reactor is also disclosed. According to the present invention, it is possible to control the temperature efficiently at a hot spot, thereby permitting stable use of a catalyst, and to produce unsaturated aldehydes and/or unsaturated fatty acids with high yield.

Complex metal oxide catalyst with high (meth) acrylic acid selectivity

A method of synthesizing glycol diester by reacting a linear aliphatic carboxylic acid and a glycol monoester in the presence of a Lewis acid type catalyst is provided. In the method, after introducing the glycol monoester, the linear aliphatic carboxylic acid and the Lewis acid type catalyst into a reactor, the reaction occurs to produce reaction products and water in the reactor; an excess of the linear aliphatic carboxylic acid forms an azeotrope with water during the reaction to be sent to a condenser through a distillation column; the linear aliphatic carboxylic acid and water passed through the condenser are divided into an organic layer and an aqueous layer in an oil water separator; and the organic layer is returned to the distillation column through a material cycling line and water in the aqueous layer is removed through a water removal line. By utilizing reactive distillation technique, water produced during the reaction is rapidly removed, and thus the reaction time can be significantly reduced and the yield of the glycol diester can be maximized.

Synthetic method of glycol diesters from reaction of glycol monoesters and linear aliphatic carboxylic acids

Disclosed is a method for producing unsaturated aldehydes or unsaturated fatty acids from at least one compound selected from the group consisting of propylene, propane, (meth)acrolein, isobutylene, t-butyl alcohol, methyl-t-butyl ether and o-xylene by means of fixed-bed catalytic partial oxidation in a shell-and-tube reactor, characterized in that the reactor includes a reaction zone for producing unsaturated aldehydes as a main product, the reaction zone having an inactive material layer inserted into a position where a hot spot is to be generated in a reaction tube. A fixed-bed shell-and-tube reactor for use in the above method is also disclosed. According to the present invention, at least one layer of inactive material is packed at the point of a hot spot to control the hot spot temperature efficiently, thereby increasing the lifetime of a catalyst and producing unsaturated aldehydes and unsaturated fatty acids with high yield.

Method of producing unsaturated aldehyde and/or unsaturated fatty acid

The present invention relates to a process for continuously preparing unsaturated carboxylic acid esters by esterifying an (aliphatic) alcohol having 1 to 8 carbon atoms with an unsaturated carboxylic acid in the presence of a cation exchange resin catalyst, characterized in that the process is conducted by continuously circulating said reactants in contact with said catalyst from the top to the bottom through a reactor which is composed in the form of a fixed bed divided into 1 to 10 steps wherein each step comprises a catalyst bed, a filter and a air inlet, and has a thermal insulating outer wall, supplying a vaporizing heat for extraction of water, which is produced during the reaction, through a heat exchanger outside the reactor, circulating the reactants between the reactor and the heat exchanger by means of a circulating pump, contacting an azeotropic mixture of water vaporized by the heat exchanger and an alcohol with an alcohol circulating in a column tower or a raw alcohol supplied from an alcohol inlet located on the top of the column tower to recycle the high boiling component into the reactor and, at the same time, to transfer the light component to the upper part of the column in which the light component is condensed, separating the condensate into an organic layer and water in a decanter, and then recycling the organic layer into the reactor and removing the water produced during the reaction, and a novel apparatus for carrying out this process.
