An apparatus and method for extending a network are provided. The method includes registering, by a transmission-side remote access agent in a first network, a plurality of transmission channels for transmitting data; receiving, by the transmission-side remote access agent, event request messages each including access information regarding an apparatus from a plurality of apparatuses located in a transmission-side network; storing, by the transmission-side remote access agent, access information included in the received event request messages, which cannot be used in a registered channel of a reception-side network in a second network; and converting, by the transmission-side remote access agent, the event request message to be used in the registered transmission channels, and transmitting the converted event request message to the reception-side network different from the transmission-side network.

An apparatus and method for extending a UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) network are provided. The method includes the steps of analyzing a program access table (PAT) of broadcasting data to determine whether there are at least two image packets, performing signal decoding when the input broadcasting data is a single screen program having one image packet, performing a multi-decoding when the input broadcasting data is a multi-screen program having at least two image packets.

In an MPEG-2 decoding system, a transport decoder decodes a transport packet corresponding to a Program Identification (PID) from an input transport stream, and retrieves a Program Association Table/Program Map Table PAT/PMT) from the stream when it is requested to retrieve Program Specific lnformation (PSI). A pre-decoder checks PSI stored in a PSI memory in response to a request to change to a desired channnel, reads PIDs of transport packets for a Packetized Elementary Stream (PES) of a program corresponding to the desired channel from the PSI memory to provide it to the transport decoder, receives the PAT/PMT and updates the contents of the memory using the PAT/PMT. After decoding, PSI previously extracted therefrom is stored in the memory. PIDs of transport packets for the PES of desired program are obtained referring to the stored PSI, and transport packets having the PIDs are retrieved and decoded.

MPEG-2 decoding system and method

Disclosed is a node structure of an upgradeable wavelength division multiplexing system that can minimize the expense in implementing, maintaining, and upgrading the system. The node structure includes an interleaver for interleaving a plurality of optical signals received therein into a predetermined number of channels; at least one demultiplexer coupled to one of the output channels for demultiplexing the optical signals received thereto into a prescribed number of channels; at least one multiplexer for multiplexing the respective demultiplexed optical signals from the demultiplexer; and, a deinterleaver for deinterleaving the optical signals outputted from the multiplexer to be forwarded to the next node.
