An optical detecting device capable of detecting a lift height of an optical navigation apparatus is disclosed. The optical detecting device includes a sensor module and a processor. The sensor module includes a sensor array and at least one detector strip. The sensor array is adapted to acquire navigation information of the optical navigation apparatus moved relative to a working surface by sensing an illumination area, and the detector strip has a detection region across an edge of the illumination area. The processor is electrically connected to the sensor module, and adapted to compute the lift height of the optical navigation apparatus relative to the working surface according to a detection result of the detector strip.

An LED current ramping method for an optical mouse includes: determining a speed of the optical mouse; setting control bits according to the determined speed; sending the control bits to a digital circuit of the mouse; and decoding the control bits to selectively open and close switches in a constant current LED driver of the mouse to adjust a current according to the speed.

Disclosed is a circuit for detecting working and resting states for an optical mouse. During each frame capture, a counting unit of the digital logic circuit outputs a first counting signal to turn on a switching transistor, such that the voltage of the pixel capacitor varies from its predetermined voltage, and the counting unit starts to count. The automatic gain control module outputs a second counting signal as the voltage of the pixel capacitor varies one threshold from the predetermined voltage, such that the counting unit stops counting and outputs a counting value. A computing unit computes a difference between the counting value and a reference counting value. The optical mouse is in a resting state if the difference is equal to or smaller than a threshold difference, and otherwise the optical mouse is in a working state.

An optical pointing device includes a light emitting unit, a pixel array, a gain controlling circuit, and a processing circuit. The light emitting unit is used for emitting light to a surface. The pixel array is used for sensing the light reflected from a surface to generate at least one sense resultant signal. The gain controlling circuit is used for controlling a gain value for the at least one sense resultant signal, to avoid signal saturation. The processing circuit is used for performing image capturing for a navigation of the optical pointing device. The gain controlling circuit and the processing circuit concurrently control the gain value and perform the image capturing for the navigation of the optical pointing device.
