A process and device for detecting and evaluating surface cracks in workpieces wherein a picture is produced of the surface of the workpiece by means of a video camera and said picture is digitized and is processed by means of a computer to produce a binary picture of any cracks present and a sorting report is triggered when a preselected threshold level is exceeded. In order to obtain a sorting signal that is independent of the absolute brightness of the original picture a blurred background picture is derived from the original picture levels that have been converted to digitized grey shade levels and subtracted from the original picture, the difference picture formed in this way giving the crack representation. A dynamic threshold level for the sorting signal is determined by comparing the grey shade distribution of the original or the difference picture with at least one previously evaluated or difference picture and a binary picture is produced from the original or the difference picture and the grey shade threshold, and picture elements with their gray shades exceeding the set threshold are indicated as defects. The surface of the workpiece may be pre-treated by the magnetic powder or dye penetration process and/or contrast intensifying means.

A process and device for producing a radiographic image of a body employ a source of high-energy radiation arranged on one side of the body and a pick-up device arranged on the other side of the body, a real-time system for reproducing the radiographic image having a television camera and a screen, and a computer-tomograph to evaluate the radiographic image row-wise and to display a cross-section of the radiographed body on the screen. By means of the real-time radiographic image a cross-section is selected and represented computer-tomographically. In this manner in the real-time radiographic image the location can be determined of which a layer image is necessary in order to recognise defects in the body being radiographed.

Process and device for producing a radiographic image

A magnetic coupling for translatorily movable bodies that is made in one position, is arranged so that it can be broken, without external control, in another position. For this purpose the first body has a coupling element of permanently magnetic or magnetizable material, the second body has at least one complementary coupling element of permanently magnetic or magnetizable material, and a third body has a coupling element of permanently magnetic or magnetizable material cooperating with the second body. Arranged between the complementary coupling element of the second body and the coupling element of the third body that is a spacer which can be moved as desired between the working positions.

A pipeline switch for selectively connecting a loading pipe to one of several secondary pipes or conduits includes an apertured plate with several through-holes for rigid connection in alignment with the secondary pipes or conduits, a pipe plate rotatable parallel to the apertured plate and having a through-hole which can be aligned with any one of the through-holes of the apertured plate and with which the loading pipe is rigidly connected in alignment, and a control unit for rotating and locking the apertured plate in relation to the pipe plate. A radiation source can be guided by a cable through the loading pipe into the aligned one of the secondary pipes.

Pipeline switch

A radiation treatment apparatus comprising a radiation shielding container (a rest container) having a plurality of first openings. A plurality of radiator holders are connected to respective drive cables, the radiator holders being axially insertable and removable from the openings by means of the drive cables through flexible hoses connected to the container at the openings. A common single drive unit is connected to all of the drive cables for joint movement of all the drive cables and therewith for joint insertion and joint removal of the radiator holders into and from the openings via the drive cables. A second radiation shielding container (an intermediate container) has a plurality of second openings for selectively receiving respective of the radiator holders. Hose coupling elements provide detachable through-connections of the free ends of the flexible hoses selectively to a respective one of the second openings or a respective hollow probe for treatment. The drive simultaneously inserts the radiator holders selected for treatment into the respective hollow probes and for simultaneously inserting the radiator holders not selected for treatment into the respective second openings, whereby the radiator holders not required at the time for treatment are guided through the respective flexible hoses into the respective second openings in the second radiation shielding container while the radiation holders required at the time for treatment are guided into the respective hollow probes.

Radiation treatment apparatus

The invention is concerned with radiographic apparatus having a radiant capsule which can be run out from a position of rest inside a protective body of gamma-radiation-absorbent material enclosed by a housing through a guide channel which can be brought into alignment with an outlet opening from the housing and hence through the outlet opening and into a tubular guide. The guide channel is in a breech body forming part of the protective body and being movable transversely between the aligned position and a non aligned position. The capsule is fastened to one end of a flexible cable which can be moved through the protective body from the side of the housing opposite to the outlet opening by means of a driving mechanism arranged remotely from the apparatus. The breech body is coupled to the end of the cable carrying the radiant capsule in such a way that by hauling back this end of the cable beyond the position of rest of the radiant capsule the breech body is moved alternately between the aligned and non aligned positions.
