The titanium-niobium-zirconium alloy includes titanium, about 13.5 to about 14.5 wt. % zirconium, and about 18 to about 19 weight % (wt. %) niobium. A three-dimensional multi-shell insulation configured to conform to the shape of a spacecraft component to be insulated. The insulation may have a plurality of nested shell layers that are displaceable relative to each other for providing natural separation between the shell layers when the insulation is used in low-pressure and/or low-gravity space-related applications. To establish the spacing between shell layers, an edge clamp may be operatively coupled to an edge portion on at least one side of each shell layer. The shell layers may have sufficient flexibility and/or may be sufficiently displaceable relative to each other to allow the insulation to be installed or removed from the spacecraft component. One or more restraints may be provided in the space between the shell layers for restricting the relative lateral and/or transverse movement between shell layers for preventing contact. Additive manufacturing may be employed to fabricate the insulation and integrate features.

A thin-film device for generating a blackbody spectrum is disclosed. The device includes first layer configured to generate heat in response to an applied voltage and a second layer configured to generate the blackbody radiation spectrum in response to the heat from the first layer. A thermocouple is disposed between the first layer and the second layer for measuring a temperature at the second layer. The thermocouple measures temperature at the second layer in order to control temperature at the second layer. The thermocouple can be a copper-carbon nanotube thermocouple.

The calibration device includes the light source which includes an ultraviolet light layer that, in operation, generates ultraviolet light, and a quantum dot layer that absorbs the ultraviolet light and, in response, generates radiation within the near infrared region at a selected intensity. The near infrared light is received at the selected intensity at the imaging device and a sensitivity of the imaging device is altered to detect the near infrared light at the selected intensity provided by the light source.

Dielectric interconnect frame incorporating EMI shield and hydrogen absorber for tile T/R modules

A thin film hydrogen getter and EMI shielding are provided for protecting GaAs circuitry sealed in an hermetic package. The thin film getter comprises a multilayer metal film that is deposited by vacuum evaporation techniques onto a conductive metal, such as aluminum or copper, that serves as the EMI shielding. The conductive layer is first formed on an interior surface. The multilayer hydrogen getter film comprises (1) a titanium film and (2) a palladium film that is deposited on the titanium film. Both the titanium and the palladium are deposited during the same coating process run, thereby preventing the titanium from being oxidized. The palladium continues to prevent the titanium from being oxidized once the getter is exposed to the atmosphere. However, hydrogen is easily able to diffuse through the palladium into the titanium where it is chemically bound up, since palladium is highly permeable to hydrogen.
