The disclosure relates to a method of manufacturing a heat exchanger assembly with an enhanced material system. The enhanced material system includes refrigerant tubes extruded from a high purity AA3000 series alloy billet having about 1% by weight (wt %) Mn and pre-braze treated with either a reactive zinc flux or a mixture of elemental zinc powder and a controlled atmosphere brazed (CAB) flux applied by glass plasma or organic binder, such as an organic binder, fins formed from modified a AA3003 alloy having less than 0.05 wt % Cu and from 1.2 to 1.8% wt % Zn, and header manifolds manufactured from a AA3000 series alloy with a AA4000 series cladding having 0.9 to 1.1 wt % Zn. The enhanced material system may also include a post braze coating and a subsequent organic polymer resin topcoat.

Method of making a heat exchanger with an enhanced material system

An improved reed valve assembly for a compressor (10) includes a substantially annular reed tip support seat (36) which nonconcentrically surrounds a round discharge port (32). The radial width of the support seat (36) varies continually from a greatest width nearest the distal edge of the reed tip (24') to a least width diametrically opposed thereto. The greatest width is sufficient to support the reed tip (24') in the area where it needs the greatest support, but is narrower everywhere else, so as to reduce contact area, noise and opening resistance.

A swash plate piston (20) of integral, one piece design has outer surface portions in contact with much of the total available inner surface of the cylinder bore (18), but with a basically hollow design that can be easily manufactured. Outer (36) and inner (38) semi cylindrical segments of the piston (20) extend axially back from a cylindrical head (32), but leave the center of the piston body entirely open and empty. A slanted wing member (40) extends out and down from the inner segment (38), into the outer segment (36), creating a four sided, frame like structure of superior strength. All of the outboard outer surfaces of the piston (20) lie on the same cylindrical envelope as the cylinder bore (18) itself, giving good, even support. However, none of the outer surfaces, outboard or inboard, present any concavities that would jeopardize the ability to form the piston (20) with only two forming elements that part in a straight line.

A two plate, TXV block type of connector for an automotive air conditioning system evaporator improves the security and serviceability of the connection through the use of common bolts specially designed to cooperate with matching bolt passages through the TXV valve block. The evaporator side anchor plate threads to one end of the bolts first, and is pulled tight to one side of the block as enlarged flanges on the bolts are concurrently pulled tight against a recessed shoulder in the bolt passage. Matching conical shapes on the bolt flange and bolt passage shoulder, coupled with a radial clearance between the rest of the bolt and the bolt passage, self center the bolt and compensates for any initial misalignment. The bolts protruded enough to allow the second plate to be attached, or removed later, independently, with nuts that are threaded on from the same direction.

An automotive A/C compressor has a novel discharge valve design that can be easily installed even though the compressor shell is made up of only two housings, each of which integrates head, cylinder bore and discharge chamber, leaving no access between the integral head and bore. A plurality of cylindrical mounting bosses are molded into the heads, one central to each bore. The plane in which the end of each boss is located can be machined independently from the axially overlapping cylinder bore, which assures an intersection of the two. The discharge valve is sized to fit through the other end of the bore into abutment with the boss, and carries a seal that is likewise assured of sealing contact with the bore.
