In a laboratory hood system having a housing with an access window opening into an interior work chamber for performing laboratory processes, and an air circulation system for creating an air flow from the laboratory environment inwardly through the access window into the work chamber for preventing hazardous materials from escaping into the laboratory environment through the access window, one or more air intake control devices are disposed in a selected location or locations at the access window to overcome any tendency for air turbulence to occur. The air intake control device has an air flow channel extending from an air intake opening to the laboratory environment to an air discharge opening to the work chamber, with a constriction in the channel for causing a venturi-effect increase in air velocity while flowing through the channel to promote non-turbulent air flow entering the work chamber at the selected location or locations.

An improved filter mounting mechanism for laboratory work cabinets, especially biological safety cabinets, enables simple and quick removal and replacement of a filter supported in the cabinet housing between a work chamber and a filtration chamber. The filter mounting mechanism includes a stationary filter support surface between the work chamber and the filtration chamber, and a filter clamping surface movable toward and away from the filter support surface between a clamping position relatively proximal to the filter support surface for holding the filter in an operational disposition against the filter support surface and an installation position relatively distal to the filter support surface for permitting insertion and removal of the filter between the filter support and clamping surfaces. An extensible and retractable linkage mechanism, e.g., a scissors mechanism, is connected to the filter clamping surface for selectively actuating movement of the clamping surface between the clamping and installation positions.

A ductless laboratory hood apparatus includes a housing defining an interior work chamber, a filtration chamber, an access window opening into the work chamber from an ambient laboratory environment, and an exhaust outlet opening from the filtration chamber into the laboratory environment, a filter system disposed between the work and filtration chambers, and an air circulation system for creating and directing an airstream to flow from the laboratory environment through the access window, the work chamber, the filter system, the filtration chamber, and the exhaust outlet to return into the laboratory environment. The filter system has both a main filter whose constituent material is highly efficient but is also degradable if exposed directly to laboratory processes, and an attenuation filter disposed between the work chamber and the main filter to intercept and attenuate laboratory processes that potentially degrade the main filter, thereby preventing degradation of the main filter.

A shelf support system that includes a shelf member having a flat support surface, and a flange adjacent at least one end of the support surface that includes a downwardly extending wall portion and an inwardly extending wall portion connected thereto, the inwardly extending wall portion having an edge formed with a notch having a predetermined width. At least one support bracket includes a U-shaped mounting flange having an upwardly extending connecting wall that includes a spacer wall portion having a predetermined width and an engagement wall portion that is connected to the spacer wall portion and that extends beyond the predetermined width of the spacer wall portion. The support bracket is connected to the shelf member by positioning the U-shaped mounting flange of the support bracket within the wall portions of the shelf member to provide a secure connection without the use of tools.

A mold (,) for molding thin resin sheets includes a center mold plate (,) and two side mold plates (,) disposed on opposite sides of the center mold plate. The mold plates are oriented generally vertically and parallel to each other, and the side mold plates are narrowly spaced from the center mold plate to define a pair of generally vertical mold cavities (,) on either side of the center mold plate. The side mold plates may optionally include recesses (,) in their generally planar mold surfaces (,) adjacent at least one longitudinal edge of the plate, for molding thin resin sheets with integral edge flanges. The mold includes spacer strips (,) for spacing the side mold plates a precise distance from the center mold plate and parallel thereto. The mold thus permits molding of thin resin sheets having precisely controlled uniform thickness.

A support assembly for a furniture system including a pair of standards which extend vertically in spaced relation, each standard having two rows of openings formed therein to extend vertically in spaced relation to one another, with the outermost rows on the pairs of standards having a first spacing therebetween and the innermost rows having a second spacing therebetween less than the first spacing. A first support member is mounted on the standards by a first arrangement for detachably mounting disposed in the outermost rows of openings, and the first support member has a first support surface which extends outwardly from the standards and braces which extend vertically along the standards. A second support member is mounted on the standards and between the braces by a second arrangement for detachably mounting disposed in the innermost rows of openings, and the second support member has a second support surface which extends outwardly from the standards intermediate the braces of the first support member, whereby the first and second support surfaces can be detachably positioned relative to each other in a useful and convenient manner.

A support post for use in a system of modular furniture, including a pair of vertically elongated post sections, with each post section including two opposed end portions in a longitudinally oriented front face portion, each of the front face portions including a mounting arrangement for mounting modular furniture components therein, and each of the end portions defining an opening and opening walls constructed and configured to releasably engage a splicing member or a foot member for splicing together of the post sections and upright positioning of the support post.

An integrated raceway component for use in a modular furniture system which includes a pair of longitudinally extending channel members disposed in spaced parallel relationship to one another, each channel member having wall portions defining an open cavity for storing one or more wires therein and having extending end portions that form a longitudinally extending slot for receiving such wires. The end portions are formed to receive and support a mounting fastener within the cavity and resilient brushes are mounted in the end portions to extend across the slot. A connecting wall portion connects the channel members with a space therebetween, and a wire raceway members is received between the channel members. The wire raceway is slidably inserted between said channel members and retained thereat, and the wire raceway includes a cover plate having electrical outlets therein.

A drawer head which is readily removable and replaceable from the front of a conventional drawer body is disclosed. The drawer head generally takes the form of a rectangular cover panel sized to cover the front panel of a drawer body. An arcuate handle extends outwardly along the top of the cover panel for allowing a user to easily grip the drawer head in order to slide the drawer in and out of a cabinet. The drawer head includes an elongated slot extending substantially between the sides of cover panel and being adapted to receive a header flange of a drawer body. To attach the drawer head to a conventional drawer body, the header flange of the drawer body is inserted through the elongated slot so that the header flange supports the drawer head with the drawer head in a contiguous relationship with the front panel of the drawer body. Fasteners are then used to secure the bottom of the drawer head to the drawer body.

A compact fume hood arrangement includes a bypass channel mounted to a top panel of the fume hood which effectively extends a front open face of the fume hood upwardly providing an air path through the bypass channel which provides sufficient air flow to prevent disadvantageous air currents due to excessive face velocity. A vertical sash can be used such that raising of the sash proportionally closes the bypass channel while opening the open face of the fume hood.
