A dual wall axial flow electric heater for leak sensitive applications provides an improved corrosion and leak resistant assembly and includes protective tubes over electrical heater rods, double tubesheets spaced apart by a plenum and leak detectors positioned to sensor leaks through the walls of the protective tubes. The design includes the option of two or more tube bundles with each inserted into opposite ends of a shell surrounding the tube sheets and heaters. The design provides ease of maintenance since each heater rod can be replaced independently while the unit is in service. Variable heat flux is provided from standard single flux heater rods by providing protective tubes of varying diameters. A built-in thermowell is provided to allow the rod temperatures to be monitored directly. Hot spots are avoided by the use of turning baffles and vibration is avoided by use of spider baffles to support the tubes.

Dual wall axial flow electric heater for leak sensitive applications

A thermal cycling device for a titration plate enables selected sample wells to be individually subjected to heating and cooling cycles independent of the temperature of adjacent sample wells. Each sample well is fitted with its own mechanism for independently heating and cooling the sample therein while a heat sensing mechanism provides feedback to the controller. The device is especially well adapted for enabling elected samples in a single titration plate to be simultaneously subjected to different PCR programs.

Thermal cycler

A heating device for a titration plate enables selected sample wells to be thawed by providing an array of individually energizable heat sources each capable of heating a single sample well. A cold plate serves to maintain all other samples in their frozen state.

Thawing station

The weight of a pivoted body is counterbalanced by a spring acting on a cam connected to that body to pivot therewith. A band, connected to that spring, attaches to the cam and wraps around the cam. The cam's profile is contoured to produce moment arms of various lengths, through which the force of the spring acts, balancing the variable torque of the weight of the pivoted body.
