Disclosed are devices and methods for providing solar lighting and power to a consumer using pay-as-you-go technology. The pay-as-you-go technology allows for a user to pay for home power and lighting on an incremental basis as they use the device. The payments are made using a user's cell phone. A pay-as-you-go lighting apparatus may include a lighting module configured to provide lighting to a customer when activated, and a control system including a processor and a memory configured to monitor usage of the lighting apparatus, track remaining usage credits, and disable the lighting apparatus when there are no remaining usage credits.

Solar lighting with pay-as-you go technology

Systems and methods for battery management are disclosed. A system may include an internal control network including multiple node controllers powered by a unique cell or combination of cells of a battery. The node controllers may communicate with each other via a node communication system. Each node controller may be responsible for managing a charge level associated with one or more cells. The one or more devices of the internal control network may enable measurement of environmental factors such as a temperature and a current and voltage applied at the battery. Based on the measured environmental factors, the internal control network may perform an ongoing assessment of the one or more cells of the battery and of an overall battery condition. The internal control network may initiate turning on or off a battery output to prevent over discharge and possible damage to the battery or devices connected to the battery.

Systems and methods for performing battery management

A water purification system is described herein. The water purification system comprises a container configured to hold a liquid; an ultraviolet light source configured to irradiate liquid within the container; a reflector configured to reflect light from the ultraviolet light source into the container; a trough adaptor having a first end and a second end and configured to channel a liquid from the first end to the second end while exposing the liquid to light from the ultraviolet light source; and wherein the reflector is configured to reflect light from the ultraviolet light source both onto the trough adaptor and into the container.

Water purifying drink system and method

Water purifying drink containers include a liquid container, a cap assembly removably coupled to the liquid container, and a purification assembly that emits ultraviolet (UV) light in the germicidal spectrum to purify a volume of drink liquid held in the liquid container. In some embodiments, the purification assembly includes a UV bulb positioned within a recess of the cap assembly facing the internal compartment of the liquid container. In some embodiments, the UV bulb further emits light in the visible spectrum and the drink container includes an indicator that becomes illuminated with visible light to indicate to a user when the UV bulb is emitting UV light.

Provided herein are systems methods including a design of a microscope slide scanner for digital pathology applications which provides high quality images and automated batch-mode operation at low cost. The instrument architecture is advantageously based on a convergence of high performance, yet low cost, computing technologies, interfaces and software standards to enable high quality digital microscopy at very low cost. Also provided is a method based in part on a stitching method that allows for dividing an image into a number of overlapping tiles and reconstituting the image with a magnification without substantial loss of accuracy. A scanner is employed in capturing snapshot images. The method allows for overlapping images captured in consecutive snapshots.

Digital microscope slide scanning system and methods

A portable lighting device having one or more inputs, at least a first and second output, one or more light sources, an input sensor, an output sensor, an adaptive buck converter, a boost mechanism, an internal power source, and a controller. The input sensor is coupled to the one or more inputs and the output sensor is coupled to the first output. The input and output sensors are coupled to the adaptive buck converter and the boost mechanism and also to the controller. The controller is configured to instruct the adaptive buck converter to condition power inputs at the one or more inputs. The controller is configured to instruct the boost mechanism to boost a stored output from the internal power source.

Lighting device, lighting system, and method of use

A multi-mode LED retrofit module is provided for a flashlight of a type having a serious circuit including a battery power supply, a light bulb, and a single pull, single throw rotary on/off switch. The retrofit module includes a logical control device which measures an on/off time of the rotary switch, subsequent to a previous on-time which is greater than a pre-determined threshold. If the subsequent on/off time is less than a pre-determined threshold (preferably 0.5 seconds), the subsequent short on/off cycle is interpreted as an instruction to change mode.

Multi-mode LED retrofit module apparatus and method

A charging device for transferring electrical charge between a variety of sources and clients comprising charging circuitry and electrical leads with magnetically attaching connectors is disclosed. The magnetically attachable leads are used to connect to external batteries or other sources or clients. The charging circuitry may be a buck, boost, or boost/buck switching ASIC or may be a micro-controller.

A self-contained, rechargeable LED flashlight uses a zener diode in reverse-breakdown avalanche mode as a low-cost voltage regulator. A second embodiment of the LED flashlight incorporates boost-buck circuitry to allow the internal rechargeable flashlight battery to be recharged through external dry cells. An LED or LED array of the flashlight may be by passed with operator control to allow an internal battery to operate an external device, such as a cellular telephone or the like.

A micro-controller and a converter circuit provide constant current to light emitting diode array from a power supply with greater voltage than the forward bias voltage of the light emitting diode. A micro-controller operatively coupled with a semiconductor switch and the converter circuit measures the ability of a DC power supply to charge the inductor. Duty cycles of the semiconductor switch are modified according to the measurement of the voltage across the internal resistor of the semiconductor switch so as to supply substantially constant current to the LED array through an inductor regardless of actual battery voltage.

Step down power management system for LED flashlight

A portable water-purification system includes a container for holding a liquid and an ultraviolet light source configured for immersion in the liquid. The ultraviolet light source is a straight low-cost tube controlled by electronic circuitry for providing hot-cathode striking at a relatively low voltage using a fly-back inductor. The operation of the water purification system is controlled by a micro-controller within the electronic circuitry.

A micro-controller operatively coupled with a semiconductor switch and the boost converter circuit measure the ability of a DC power supply to change the inductor.
