A wire guide includes a solid core mandrel that is initially received in a flat wire coil that has a rest inner diameter that is greater than a uniform diameter of the solid core mandrel. The flat wire of the flat wire coil is in tension between a proximal location and a distal location so that the flat wire coil has a reduced inner diameter that is smaller than its rest inner diameter. The tension in the flat wire is introduced by torquing the mandrel relative to the flat wire coil as part of attaching the coil to the mandrel.

An occluding device for occluding fluid flow through a lumen of a body vessel. The device comprises a coil and fibers attached to the coil. The coil has about 5 to 60 grams of initial tension to facilitate the coil to fold when deployed. The fibers extend from the coil at a length.

A medical wire guide may include a mandril having a distal tip, a first coil coupled with the distal tip of the mandril, and a second coil configured to releasably engage with the mandril or the first coil. The second coil comprises a distal tip and defines an inner cavity dimensioned to contain a distal tip of the first coil when the second coil is engaged with the mandril or the first coil.

An occluding device for occlusion of fluid flow through a lumen of a body vessel is manufactured by wedging fibers between adjacent coil windings of a primary coil so that the fibers extend generally radially across the primary coil body between the primary coil windings and outward therefrom. An elongated adhesive applicator is inserted into the primary coil lumen and subsequently proximally withdrawn while simultaneously depositing along the primary coil windings. The fibers and the adhesive are placed in overlapping locations so that the fibers extend through the adhesive. The fibers are thus blocked from slipping along their length relative to the coil body by the adhesive adhering to the fibers inside the primary coil lumen. The adhesive extends radially outward from the coil lumen no farther than the outer primary coil radius. The adhesive adheres to the fibers and may or may not adhere with the primary coil windings.

Occluding device and method of manufacturing occluding devices

A tubular body for a medical device for insertion within a body passageway of a patient. The tubular body includes a tubular inner liner. A braided member is disposed along an outer surface of the liner. The braided member includes intersecting filaments and cells defined by the filaments. A securement mechanism, such as radiopaque solder, is disposed along a circumferential region of the braided member. The securement mechanism is attached to portions of the filaments and spans the cells that correspond to the circumferential region to inhibit relative movement of filament ends. An outer surface of the securement mechanism is sized to extend radially outward to a position up to an outer surface of the braided member to not add to the overall wall thickness of the tubular body. An outer jacket is positioned longitudinally around the braided member and connected to the inner liner.

A medical device for draining a fluid from the body of a patient includes a tubular member having an open distal end that resides interiorly of the body of a patient and a proximal end that extends exteriorly of the body of the patient. The tubular member has an inner surface extending between the distal end and the proximal end, wherein the inner surface defines a lumen. An interior member is disposed in the lumen and extends along a length of the inner surface. The interior member is engaged with the inner surface such that a chamber is defined therebetween. A conduit is engaged with the tubular member for transmission of an inflation fluid to selectively vary a dimension of the chamber for freeing clogged debris in the lumen.

Tubular drainage device

A clot retrieval system for removing clots from a body lumen. The clot retrieval system includes an elongated sheath and a wire assembly. The wire assembly is comprised of four wire segments, each biased to have a distally extending circumferential curve. Two wire segments are connected together at a proximal end and a distal end to form a first loop, and are connected to a shaft. Two other wire segments are connected together at a proximal end and a distal end to form a second loop and are connected to the first two wire segments. The second loop is covered with a membrane to catch clots. The wire assembly may be compacted by retracting it within the elongated sheath, or expanded by extending it from the elongated sheath.

The fibers are thus blocked from slipping along their length relative to the coil body by the adhesive adhering to the fibers inside the primary coil lumen. The adhesive extends radially outward from the coil lumen no farther than the outer primary coil radius. The adhesive adheres to the fibers and may or may not adhere with the primary coil windings.

A lumen re-entry system includes a helically wound coil having open proximal and distal ends, and defining a longitudinal movement axis. The helically wound coil includes a distal segment that is relaxed relative to a proximal segment. A tip deflection wire is attached to the relaxed distal segment and coaxially disposed relative to the helically wound coil. Movement of the tip deflection wire moves the lumen re-entry system from an advancement configuration in which the open distal end of the helically wound coil is substantially aligned with the longitudinal movement axis to a deflected configuration. The lumen re-entry system also includes a puncture wire slidably received within the helically wound coil and having a distal puncture tip.

Lumen re-entry system and method

A system for occluding a blood vessel includes an embolization coil having barbed fibers coupled thereto. The coil can be delivered in a straight configuration and then transition into a larger coiled structure. The barbed fibers can overlap within a lumen defined by the larger coiled structure and attached to each other to define a mesh. The barbs of the barbed fiber can limit the fibers from being pulled out of the coil, as well as provide anchoring of the coil to the blood vessel in which the coil is deployed. The barbed fibers can also be used to anchor two coils to each other.

An aneurysm closure clip along with a system and method for use by a physician in delivering the closure clip into the vasculature of a patient is disclosed. The closure clip delivery system comprises a delivery tube in the form of a catheter, a guide wire, and a detachable closure clip. The closure clip includes a proximal side and a distal side. The distal side comprises at least two winged elements that interact with the wall of the body vessel to hold the clip in place after delivery. The proximal side includes a seal element and a guide bar. The guide bar is in communication with the guide wire during delivery. The seal element forms a barrier between the aneurysm and the rest of the body vessel, thereby, reducing any pressure exerted on the aneurysm. The seal element and optionally the winged elements include a material layer comprised of bioremodelable material, such as an extracellular matrix material (ECM).

In one embodiment, a device for closing or occluding ASDs and PFOs, or other bodily passageways, includes a circumferential frame, a sheet of biocompatible material attached to the frame, and at least one anchor attached to the sheet of biocompatible material. In another embodiment, the closure device includes a circumferential frame, at least one crossbar extending across and attached to the frame, at least one anchor connected to at least one crossbar; and at least one sheet of biocompatible material (such as ECM material) attached to the frame. The anchor includes at least one grasping member having a structure, such as a wired loop, which is configured for releasable attachment to a delivery release member, which facilitates delivery of a closure device collapsibly disposed in a delivery catheter. Alternatively, one or more anchor end pairs may be connected to a delivery bar enhancing delivery and retrieval of the device.

Closure device and method of closing a bodily opening

A clot removal system includes an elongated tubular sheath and an elongated tubular catheter received within the sheath. A distal segment of the catheter is split into a plurality of catheter wall segments, with each wall segment having a pre-shaped curved configuration. Each wall segment defines at least one scraping edge and has a distal tip that is less stiff than a remaining portion of the wall segment. The clot removal system has a transport configuration in which the distal segment of the catheter is axially aligned with a distal segment of the sheath and the wall segments are urged against the pre-shaped curved configuration by the sheath. The clot removal system also has a deployed configuration in which the distal segment of the catheter is advanced distally beyond the distal segment of the sheath and the wall segments conform to the pre-shaped curved configuration.
