Disclosed is an ambulatory infusion device, including a control unit and an electroacoustic transducer. The control unit is configured to operate the electroacoustic transducer as noise emitter or to operate the electroacoustic transducer as noise receiver and to determine from a received noise that is received by the electroacoustic transducer a state of the ambulatory infusion device.

Input data is provided and processed by a first calculation to thereby provide a first calculation result. When the first and second calculation results are found equal, remote control of the medical device by a medical device application running on the communication device is allowed. The method includes repeatedly and automatically carrying out a filling volume assessment routine. The filling volume assessment routine includes: determining, at a present point in time, an estimated filling volume of the secondary reservoir at a future estimation point in time, the future point in time being an estimation time interval after the present point in time, and determining in dependence of the estimated filling volume, if the secondary reservoir shall be refilled at the present point in time.

One embodiment of a system includes an administration unit, a housing that houses the administration unit, and a controller unit adapted to receive an alarm triggering signal.
