In a method for manufacturing an annular scale from a measuring strip, the ends of a measuring strip are welded together, and the shortening of the scale-division marks in the joint region caused by the welding operation is compensated by a subsequent rolling operation.

A coupling for the torsion-proof, but radially resilient connection of a stator of an angle encoder with a stator of an object to be measured, the coupling includes a spring element that is either normally in a first position but when the spring element is bent out by a bending force the spring element moves from the first position through a click point to a second position where the spring element engages a portion of the angle encoder or the spring element normally is biased in a first position but when the bias of the spring element at said first position is canceled the spring element is moved to a second position where the spring element engages a portion of the angle encoder.

Rotary encoder

A multi-turn rotary encoder that includes a first code carrier connected with an input shaft, a scanning device that scans the first code carrier and generates an absolute position of the input shaft within one revolution, and a digital code word is present at an output of the scanning device and a second code carrier for measuring the number of revolutions of the input shaft. A reduction gear is arranged between and coupled to the first and second code carriers. The second code carrier includes a magnetic body with at least one north and south pole and a substrate with a spatial arrangement of sensor elements integrated therein, which are sensitive to magnetic fields, is associated with the magnetic body. An evaluation circuit integrated into the substrate, wherein scanning signals, which are phase-shifted with respect to each other, from the sensor elements are supplied, and that the evaluation circuit combines the scanning signals in such a way that a second digital code word is present serially or in parallel at an output of the evaluation circuit. A combination logical device, which is supplied with the first and second digital code words and which forms a resultant multi-digit code word therefrom.

An angle measuring system for high-precision determination of the angular position of an object, the system including a stationary component unit, a rotationally symmetrical measurement graduation that is connected to an object that rotates about an axis of rotation (R) and a plurality of scanner units that are disposed in a defined three-dimensional orientation in the stationary component unit and serve to scan the measurement graduation at a plurality of different measurement graduation sites and generate angular-position-dependent fractional scanning signals. The system includes a correction system that receives the fractional scanning signals of the scanner units and generates angle-dependent output signals that are freed of errors that result from a possibly occurring nonagreement of the axis of rotation (R) of the object with an axis of symmetry of the measurement graduation.

Angular position encoder

An angular encoder including a flexible measurement tape having a graduation and secured to a sector of a convex or concave, as the case may be, circumferential surface of a support, a scanning head for scanning the graduation of the measurement tape and two tensioning or pressure devices provided at opposite ends of the measurement tape, dependent on whether the measurement tape abuts a convex or concave circumferential surface, respectively, which apply to the two ends of the measurement tape equal tensioning or pressure forces acting in opposite directions, respectively.

Angular encoder

The spacing distance D between a scale and a scanner element of a scanner unit is adjusted simply through the use of a positioning element which is part of the scanning unit. The scanner unit has a mounting element on which the scanner element is supported. The scanner element is displaceable perpendicularly to a surface of the scale from a first reference position to a second reference position. A screw is used to actuate for the displacement and the reference positions are predetermined by stop faces of the screw and stop faces of the mounting element.

A calibration method of determining and compensating differences of measuring forces in different coordinate directions in a measuring scanning system for use in a numerically controlled multi-coordinate measuring machine, which method includes the steps of inputting parameters of the scanning system and of a calibration gauge into a control unit of the multi-coordinate measuring machine, scanning calibrating surfaces of the calibrating gauge with the scanning system, with a scanning displacement being effected in a direction defined by two coordinate directions, superimposing on the initial scanning displacement another scanning displacement, which deviates from the initial displacement, and determining deviation displacement paths of the scanning system for determining differences of the measuring force in different coordinate directions and respective correction coefficients, which are inputted into the control unit of the coordinate measuring machine.

Calibration method for determining and compensating differences of

A multi-coordinate probe with a stylus is disclosed wherein the stylus has a mounting or seating location defining its zero position. The stylus is deflectable from the zero position in several coordinate directions and is urged by a restoring force back into its zero position. The mounting location of the stylus is formed by the cooperation of surface areas of a plurality of balls with associated surface areas of support members. The balls and the support members are centrally arranged about the axis of the probe. The balls are fixedly mounted on a mounting member while the support members, which preferably are in the form of cylinder bodies with a V-shaped groove in the surface facing the balls, are, during assembly of the probe, rotatable about their own axis and axially movable to accomplish the desired precision seating of the ball surfaces in the grooves. After the positioning is accomplished, the cylindrical bodies are immovably fixed within the probe casing. A method is also disclosed to facilitate the precision seating of the balls in the grooves during assembly of the probe.
