A pressure-sensitive closure mechanism for a folded carton incorporates a pressure-sensitive tape having adhesive on one surface thereof disposed on a one side of a hinged lid panel, with the adhesive exposed through an opening in the lid panel and releasably engaging an outer surface of a flap-receiving panel. The hinged lid panel is formed by folding an inner lid panel over an outer lid panel. Both lid panels have openings. The pressure-sensitive tape is disposed between the two lid panels. When the lid is closed over the opening in the carton, the user applies pressure with his finger to the backside (non-adhesive) side of the pressure-sensitive tape. The pressure pushes the tape against flap-receiving panel of the carton. Repeated closings and openings are possible.

Folding carton with pressure-activated closure mechanism

A paperboard cup holder for use with a hot coffee cup, the cup being tapered as in the form of a cross section of a right circular cone of relatively small taper angle. Such cups are generally of paperboard or plastic and are often used in vending machines and fast food retail outlets for serving hot coffee. The holder is formed from a flat, generally arcuate unitary paperboard blank having a convex outer edge and a concave inner edge. The arcuate length of the blank is substantially the same as the mid circumference of the cup, and the ends of the blank are glued together to form an annular holder. The upper edge of the blank integrally carries a plurality of apertured flaps which bend 180 degrees to as to lie parallel with the main portion of the blank. When the holder is slid onto a cup, the apertured flaps are sandwiched between the outer (hot) surface of the cup and the main portion of the holder. The flap apertures define small, closed air chambers which assist, with the paperboard of the holder, in inhibiting heat flow to the fingers of the person holding the cup. Spaces between the flaps define air filled channels which further assist in inhibiting heat flow from the hot coffee to the finger tips of the user.

Paperboard cup holder

A paper bag formed from a unitary blank and having a longitudinal seam running along its length. The seam is of a double layer of paper and has two spaced and parallel adhesive areas joining the two layers. A pair of parallel perforated lines border respective adhesive areas. The perforated lines define a tear strip on the outermost one of the double layers. The tear strip is provided on its usually hidden surface with indicia, so that after tearing it away, the user will be notified by the indicia of the winning of a prize offered by the vendor of product placed within the bag.

The present invention discloses an improved, cylindrical, paperboard collar for placing around a specialty sandwich such as a multilayer hamburger or such. The collar blank is cut from flat paperboard stock in the form of an elongated rectangle which is folded back over itself having its free ends adhesively attached to one another whereby the resulting flat preform may be expandingly opened to form a cylindrical configuration. Two tongue like locking tabs are cut into the paperboard surface which when the preform is expanded to form an upright cylinder the tabs act to maintain the open cylinder.

Locking sandwich collar

An otherwise conventional paperboard french fry scoop and container is provided with a game or quiz accessory construction to improve its utility. The rear (higher) wall (,) of the scoop is provided with a pair of parallel slits (,) which slidably receive a tear off strip (,), the latter carried by a glue panel (,) glued to the rear wall of the scoop. The tear strip carries indicia (,) in the form of two rows of respective questions and answers, the indicia being viewed through openings (,) between the two slits. The user tears off the tear strip, inserts it through the slits, and proceeds to read the questions and answers. All components of the scoop are readily formed from the blank, the mode of assembling the device, as well as the basic form of the unitary paperboard blank from which it is formed, being essentially the same as that of known paperboard french fry scoops. In a second embodiment, the parallel slits and openings are located in the front wall (,), and the tear strip (,) is integral with and detachable from the rear or higher wall (,).

Quiz game french fry scoop

A clamshell type container is formed from a unitary blank (10) of paperboard, the top or crown of the container including two side wall panels (32) which extend slantingly downwardly and whose free edges extend beneath the upper edges of the lower container half side walls. The crown has a front wall formed of two panels (40, 48) folded together so as to define a dual layer front wall. The outer panel (40) of the dual layer front wall is provided with spaced apart perforated lines (46) to define a tear strip (44). The inner panel (48) of the dual layer front wall is provided with indicia to show the winning of a prize upon tearing off of the tear strip. Alternatively, the normally hidden inner surface of the tear strip may be provided with indicia. Either of the downwardly sloping side wall panels (32) of the crown or top may, alternatively, be provided with this tear strip and indicia construction. As a further variant, the auxiliary indicia panel (48) may be folded over the crown front panel (40) so that the auxiliary indicia panel (48) is on the outside of the dual layer (40, 48) crown front wall, instead of on the inside.

Paperboard clamshell construction

An identification button construction for a paperboard clamshell carton or container. An edge of the carton lid, such as a horizontal edge, is provided with a plurality of cuts or scores which form the periphery of individual identification buttons. Such buttons are used to indicate the presence or absence of an ingredient or garnish for a hot food item such as a hamburger sandwich. The peripheral scores or lines of the button are cut about half way through the paperboard from the outer carton surface towards the carton interior. An elongated Z shaped cut, completely through the paperboard, bisects the button, at a right angle to the crown edge. The crown edge also bisects the button. While a diamond shape button is illustrated, round, oval, or other polygonal shapes may be employed. In use, a button is finger pressed toward the carton interior and assumes a depressed configuration, different from its original configuration, thus indicating the presence or absence of a garnish or other ingredient for the packaged food item.

Identification button for paperboard container

A clamshell type paperboard container formed from a unitary blank of paperboard. Two embodiments are described. In the first, the container is square and the lid includes four triangular panels meeting at an elevated and central common point. In the second, the container in rectangular and the lid includes two triangular panels and two trapezoidal panels, and the central elevated portion of the lid includes an elongated ridge or rib. These constructions prevent stacking and hence inadvertent crushing of a closed and filled container. The slanting sides of the lids yield an easel effect for graphics thereon.

Gable lid clamshell container

A container formed of two identical trays. Each tray carries two flanges, the flanges extending from opposite side walls of a tray. One surface of each flange is provided with a layer or coating of a cohesive material. Such a material adheres only to other cohesive surfaces. Storage of the coated blanks, and of the erected trays, is hence facilitated. The container is particularly useful for the packaging of fast food items.

Cohesive self latching trays

A french fry scoop formed from a unitary blank of paperboard is provided with generally horizontally extending lower legs. The legs extend tangentially from the lower edges of the scoop and permit the filled scoop to be placed on a horizontal surface in slightly tilted, stable equilibrium. The scoop displays both economy in paperboard required and a pleasing rest position from which the consumer can withdraw product.

Stand-up french fry scoop

An indicia tab construction for a paperboard food wrapper or container. In one embodiment a peripheral indicia tab is foldable about a lateral axis to assume one of two configurations, and is held in a folded configuration by a cohesive layer. In a second embodiment each of a plurality of peripheral indicia tabs is foldable about respective aligned axes and is also held in folded configurations by respective cohesive layers. In a third embodiment one or more foldable indicia tabs are attached to the periphery of one half of a foldable food wrapper, each tab provided with a legend or other indicia normally viewable. These tabs may be, selectively, folded so as to uncover other legends or indicia, normally covered, on the other wrapper half.

A carton for a package of photographic film, such as instant film. The carton is formed of a unitary paperboard blank coated on both sides by a thermoplastic barrier film. The thermoplastic functions as an adhesive when acted upon by heat and pressure, thus sealing portions of the blank together. Each of four corners of the carton includes a gusset folded in such a manner as not to present a raw paperboard edge to the interior. The construction yields an air tight, liquid tight package with an oxygen barrier, and obviates the requirement of many similar packages that the photographic film be separately wrapped in a protective foil or film prior to being placed in a carton. Three embodiments of the carton are disclosed.

Barrier package for instant film

A carton formed from a unitary blank of paperboard, the carton exhibiting particular utility as a wrapper or container for food products, such as sandwiches. A sandwich may be formed on the wrapper before folding and forming the wrapper into a carton. Or the sandwich may be made and then placed on the wrapper blank, with two opposite ends of the blank then pulled upwardly around the sandwich. Each end is coated with a layer of cohesive material on one surface, these two surfaces being adhered together to form an upper rib of two thicknesses of paperboard, the end walls of the container then being easily manually formed. The cohesive material has the property of sticking only to itself and the coated ends are readily separated and readily reclosed. Instead of conventional adhesive materials, the use of cohesive coatings enables the coated blanks of this invention to be stacked without sticking to each other, and enables the user to close the carton for storage and subsequent use if a food product therein is not completely consumed in one sitting.
