A plastics cartridge has a cartridge body provided with a flange which has a plastic casing body, open on one side, is for accommodating a propellent charge and an ignition charge for igniting the propellant charge and has a plastics cover for closing the open end of the casing body. A flange is located on the end of the casing body on the cover side. if the cartridge body is inserted into the firing device, the flange extends into a space which passes out of a receiving chamber of a cartridge recess and is formed by cartridge recess and bottom of the breech of the firing device. In the section in which it extends in the propagation direction of the pressure wave arising on ignition of the propellent charge, the flange of the cartridge body is tapered--in the propagation direction--at least over a part of said section. The flange therefore forms a wedge which is inserted into the wedge-shaped space between the cartridge recess and bottom of the breech. Stresses arising in the direction of the flange are transferred via the wedge to the cartridge recess and bottom of the breech and are reduced. Even with thermoplastic plastic extrusions of material in the flange region can be prevented by this tapered gap effect.

Plastic cartridge for a firing device, particularly a bolt gun

A cartridge is made up of a synthetic resin case member and a synthetic resin lid. The case member contains a first receiving chamber for receiving an igniter charge and a second receiving chamber for the accommodation of a propellant charge. A synthetic resin ignition pin flexibly connected to the lid extends into the first receiving chamber. Upon the exertion of pressure by a striker on the rear end of the ignition pin, the pin is advanced further into the first receiving chamber, a pointed forward percussion end of this ignition pin acting on the igniter charge to ignite the charge. The igniter charge is accommodated in funnel shape in a conical depression of the first receiving chamber. The percussion end of the ignition pin, extending into the igniter charge, upon displacement, causes friction in the igniter charge material and thus generates frictional heat therein. Owing to this 'broaching-type igniter principle', it is possible to obtain a reliable ignition of the igniter charge in spite of the use of synthetic resin, substantially softer as compared with metal, as the material forming the case member and forming the ignition pin.

Plastic cartridge and plastic cartridge-belt magazine

Polyethylene crosslinked by high-energy radiation, preferably electron beams, is an effective material for the manufacture of ammunition elements, preferably cases for cartridges. The case is produced by irradiating a molded case component of polyethylene with high-energy radiation.

Use of radiation-crosslinked polyethylene

A training cartridge includes a metallic cartridge case with a case shoulder and dummy projectile having a gas exhaust opening at its front end. A propellant charge powder chamber of the cartridge case is closed in the forward direction by means of a cup-shaped closure element that is inserted in the cartridge case close to the case shoulder and that bursts or ruptures during firing under the action of the powder gases along predetermined intentional breaking zones. Toward the rear, the powder chamber is sealed by means of a bottom piece inserted in the cartridge case. By placing the intentional opening zones into the interior of the cartridge, danger of injury by the ejected cartridge case is reduced to a minimum.

Training cartridge

A training cartridge has a plastic projectile or plastic dummy projectile wherein the projectile or dummy projectile is integrally molded on a synthetic resin sleeve open at the rear end. The sleeve is inserted in a cartridge case of metal open at its front end. The cartridge case with case shoulder and case neck formed thereon is made to be open also at the rear end so that the synthetic resin sleeve can be inserted from the rear end into the cartridge case in close contact with the inner wall thereof. A separate metallic bottom piece is inserted into the rear end of the cartridge case, sealing the case tightly toward the rear.

Training cartridge with plastic projectile or dummy projectile

A projectile with at least one longitudinally extending recess emanating from the rear end of the projectile and a rearwardly open sleeve having at least one pyrotechnical charge arranged therein. The sleeve is disposed within the recess and is arranged to be retained in the recess during and after the firing of the projectile. To enable retention of the sleeve, there is provided a pressure relief of propellant gases in the recess and/or abutments of the projectile and/or holding arrangements provided on the sleeve.

Projectile with at least one pyrotechnical charge, especially a tracer

A cartridge case and a process for the production thereof wherein the cartridge case includes an elongated tubular member and a separate bottom part. The separate bottom part is insertable in said elongated tubular member such that at least a portion of the wall surfaces of said bottom part and said tubular member contact one another and at least one of said separate bottom part and said elongated tubular member in the region of the wall surfaces to be contacted is provided with transfer elements. The transfer element means are responsive to ultrasonic energy for joining said bottom part and said elongated tubular member together such that a cartridge case is formed especially utilizable as a shot cartridge case.
