The invention relates to an aqueous fluoropolymer hybrid composition having superior weathering resistance while maintaining excellent mechanical properties in coatings, paints, caulks and adhesives. The composition is comprised of: a) a vinylidene fluoride polymer, such as KYNAR® polymers from Arkema, b) a first vinyl polymer immiscible with the vinylidene fluoride polymer and having a Tg of less than 0° C., and c) a second vinyl polymer of a different composition, also having a Tg of less than 0° C., and containing groups capable of crosslinking. The invention also relates to waterborne coatings or paints containing the aqueous fluoropolymer hybrid composition, and an article, object, or structure coated with the fluoropolymer hybrid composition on at least one surface, either in a factory or in the field, to confer protection and decorative properties. Free films made from the waterborne compositions of the invention have a dynamic mechanical analysis loss tangent, tan (δ), of greater than 0.22 at a temperature of 0° C.

Organopolysulfides such as organodisulfides, organotrisulfides and/or organotetrasulfides are useful stabilizers for polymer compositions, wherein the tendency of a polymer to degrade when exposed to environmental conditions such as heat, light and oxygen may be ameliorated by the incorporation of one or more of such organopolysulfides, optionally together with one or more additional stabilization additives such as a hindered phenol antioxidant, phosp(on)ite stabilizer or hindered amine light stabilizer.

Compositions useful for forming high gloss, transparent, hard, flexible, weather- and dirt-resistant coatings on substrate surfaces are prepared using a) fluoropolymer, such as KYNAR&#xae; resins and KYNAR Aquatec&#xae; resins from Arkema Inc, b) fluoropolymer-miscible polymer and c) one or more ethylenically unsaturated compounds capable of being cured by free radical means, such as urethane acrylate oligomers and monomer reactive diluents from Sartomer USA, LLC. The compositions are capable of being cured by free radical polymerization induced by, for example, irradiation or heating.

Compositions based on fluoropolymers, fluoropolymer-miscible polymers and free radically-curable components

The invention relates to an aqueous fluoropolymer coating composition for direct application to glass without the need for pre-treatment of the glass surface. The coating composition can also be used with other non-porous and porous substrates. The fluoropolymer coating contains a hydroxyl-functional fluoropolymer, and polyisocyanates. Preferably the coating composition also contains a water-dispersible hydroxyl functional polyurethane. The coating composition may exist as a 1-pack or a multi-pack coating system. The coating has excellent wet adhesion to glass, good weathering, chalking resistance, chemical resistance, and dirt pickup resistance.

The invention relates to an intertwined multilayer primer/fluoropolymer coating on the glass substrate. The coating is an environmentally friendly aqueous, fluoropolymer coating composition. The coating process involves applying a polyurethane primer to the glass substrate, and partially, but not completely crosslinking this primer coating. An aqueous hydroxyl-functional fluoropolymer coating is then applied to the partially cross-linked primer coating, and the coating allowed to fully cure. The invention also relates to the intertwined multilayer primer/fluoropolymer coating on the glass substrate. The final coating has excellent wet adhesion to glass, good weathering, durability, chalking resistance, chemical resistance, and dirt pickup resistance.

Process for coating a glass substrate with an aqueous fluroropolymer coating

The invention relates to an process for coating a glass substrate with an environmentally friendly aqueous, fluoropolymer coating composition. The process involves applying a polyurethane primer to the glass substrate, and partially, but not completely crosslinking this primer coating. An aqueous hydroxyl-functional fluoropolymer coating is then applied to the partially crosslinked primer coating, and the coating allowed to fully cure. The invention also relates to the intertwined multilayer primer/fluoropolymer coating on the glass substrate. The final coating has excellent wet adhesion to glass, good weathering, durability, chalking resistance, chemical resistance, and dirt pickup resistance.

Process for coating a glass substrate with an aqueous fluoropolymer coating

The invention relates to a colored, multi-layered composition having a high level of Total Solar Reflectance (TSR). The composition includes a thin top, weatherable layer having a minimal amount of colored pigment suitable for optical hiding. In one embodiment a pigmented topcoat having less than 12 percent colored (non-white) pigment in a KYNAR AQUATEC emulsion (Arkema Inc.) is placed over a white elastomeric acrylic primer on a substrate to produce a colored multiplayer composition with a TSR of greater than 70%.

The invention relates to an aqueous-based fluoropolymer coating that is especially useful for use over flat or low-slope flexible surfaces, and more specifically for flat or low-slope roofing. The coating can be factory or field applied. The coating offers the advantages of improved durability, lower dirt pick-up, stain resistance, water repellency, increased solar reflectivity duration, and mildew resistance.

The invention relates to a one-step fluoropolymer, especially polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), coating for use on metals, especially use on metal fuel line and brake tubes, etc, to provide a protective barrier with superior chemical resistance, impact resistance and heat resistance as well as good flexibility. The coating composition contains, on a resin solids basis, 75-94 percent polyvinylidene fluoride resin, 5-20 percent acrylic resin, and 1-15 percent polyepoxide resin. The coating has excellent adhesion on metal substrates, particularly on non-pretreated galvanized steel, without the need for a primer coating.

Foams and coatings

The invention relates to a fluoropolymer resin-based composition useful as a stain resistant coating. The coating composition contains organosilicates and at least one water-scavenger, and has an extended pot life. Articles coated with the composition show superior weatherability, dirt shedding, and stain resistance, without a negative effect on gloss. The coating is especially useful on roofing materials, wall materials and other outdoor building materials.

A cross-linkable fluoropolymer dispersion is described and involves a polymer product of at least one polymerizable acrylic and/or vinyl containing monomer and at least one hydrolytically stable silane containing monomer which are in the presence of an aqueous dispersion of at least one fluoropolymer. The present invention further relates to cross-linkable fluoropolymer blends wherein at least one polymer contains acrylic units, vinyl units, or both and at least one hydrolytically stable silane or silane containing group in the presence of at least one thermoplastic fluoropolymer. The silane or silane containing group can alternatively be present in the thermoplastic fluoropolymer. Methods of making the cross-linkable fluoropolymers are also described as well as products containing the cross-linkable fluoropolymer dispersions such as paints and coatings.
