A wireless network extender device is for use with a wireless access point device which is connected to a wireless network. The wireless network extender device is configured to transmit an onboarding communication on a current operating channel. The wireless network extender device includes: a radio; a memory having instructions and country code data; and a processor configured to execute the instructions stored on the memory to cause the wireless network extender device to: receive the onboarding communication on the current operating channel; identify a determined maximum broadcasting power based on the onboarding communication and the country code data; and initiate an onboarding process with the wireless access point device at the determined maximum broadcasting power on the current operating channel.

Country code or transmission power configuration prior to onboarding an extender

An access point can track a station throughout a network using an identifier, for example, a media access control (MAC) address. However, as MAC addresses are randomized or changing, there is a need for the access point to provide a unique identifier to a station that does not rely on a MAC address. The access point can receive a unique identifier query response action frame from the station that indicates that the station is associated with a corresponding unique identifier for the network and based on the unique identifier query response action frame, send a unique identifier set action frame to the station so as to cause the station to set as the unique identifier for the station the unique identifier of the unique identifier set action frame sent by the access point.

Method and mechanism to assign a unique identifier to a station from an access point

A client device is provided for use with a user, a network extender device and a gateway device. The client device includes: a memory; a graphic user interface configured to provide an instruction to the user to place the client device within a predetermined distance from the network extender device; and a processor configured to execute instructions stored on the memory to cause the client device to: obtain the backhaul credentials from the wireless network; obtain the extender identification data from the network extender device; instruct the graphic user interface to provide the instruction to the user to place the client device within a predetermined distance from the network extender device; communicate with the network extender device based on the extender identification data; and provide the backhaul credentials to the network extender device to enable the network extender device to join the wireless network.

A client device for use with a wireless network controller device, a connected wireless APD and a second wireless APD, the client device including: a memory; and a processor configured to execute instructions stored on the memory to cause the client device to: associate with the wireless network; and transmit an onboard new APD instruction to the wireless network controller device to cause the wireless network controller device to: transmit a restricted mode instruction to instruct the connected wireless APD and to instruct the connected wireless APD to transmit a beacon; receive a notification of the probe request; transmit the onboarding instruction to instruct the connected wireless APD; and transmit the primary mode instruction to instruct the connected wireless APD, wherein the onboarding instruction causes one of: the connected wireless APD to transmit the beacon; and the connected wireless APD to not transmit the beacon only on the assigned channel.

During operation, an access point aggregates communication-performance information and behavior information in a wireless local area network (WLAN) corresponding to an electronic device, where the communication-performance information and the behavior information are aggregated over a time interval that is longer than an instance of a connection or association of the electronic device to the WLAN. Then, the access point provides the communication-performance information and the behavior information to a second electronic device. After receiving information about another instance of a connection or association of the electronic device to the WLAN, the access point provides a request to the second electronic device for historical information about communication performance and behavior of the electronic device in the WLAN. Moreover, after receiving the historical information, the access point selectively provides the transition recommendation in the WLAN to the electronic device, where the transition recommendation is based at least in part on the historical information.

Device steering based on profile and historical behavior

To improve the network experience in a network, a unique device identifier (UDID) can be generated by a UDID generation module of a client device. The UDID generation module utilizes one or more device parameters as well as a service set identifier (SSID) as input(s) to the UDID generation module. The UDID can be reported to an access point device of the network so that the access point device can track, monitor, control, etc. the client device within the network, for example, when media access control randomization (rMAC) is utilized by the network to protect the privacy of the client device or a user of the client device. The same UDID is generated each time the client device joins the network so that the client device need not store the UDID.

The present disclosure relates to a network device, a method executed by the network device, and a computer-readable medium. Some aspects of the present disclosure relate to a first network device, including a memory, on which instructions are stored, and a processor configured to execute the instructions stored on the memory to cause the first network device to execute the following operations: executing channel scanning on a main working channel of a second network device coupled to the first network device to detect a beacon frame broadcast by the second network device; determining whether a beacon frame broadcast by the second network device is detected within a first predetermined time duration; and at least partially in response to the determination that no beacon frame broadcast by the second network device has been detected within the first predetermined time duration, causing the second network device to automatically restart its Wi-Fi module.

Aspects of the present disclosure are drawn to a client device for use with an access point device. A method for anonymizing user identifiable information to be transmitted outside of a local network includes generating a network entity hash input based on (i) a first MAC address assigned to a client station of the local network, (ii) a second MAC address assigned to the network gateway device of the local network, and (iii) an identifier of a cloud entity of an external network to which data of the client station is to be transmitted. The method further includes generating a hash value output based on the network entity hash input and a random token value using a hashing function, generating an anonymized MAC address associated with the client station based on the hash value output, and transmitting the anonymized MAC address associated with the client station to the cloud entity of the external network.
