The safety mountaineering rope (1) has a core comprising a plurality of core ropes (2). In order to improve the tearing resistance of the rope (1), the rope core surrounds in the manner of a tube at least one cavity (3) extending over the entire length of the rope (1). In this case the cavity (3 )is filled by means of at least one resilient filling material or body, resilient at least as viewed in the radial direction of the rope (1), and which, when the rope (1) is pulled over an edge and with a high tensile force for example, results in a considerable momentary flattening of the cross-section of the rope when pulled over the edge and thus a considerably wider support of the rope (1) on such an edge. In addition, the rope core (2) is surrounded by a rope sheathing (4) provided with a protective layer (5) impervious to particles of dirt.

An apparatus for continuous drying and shrinking of textile knitted or woven good incorporates at least one drying station that includes several oppositely disposed and oppositely hot-air nozzles which are offset relative to each other and directed into a through-channel defined thereby. At least upper and lower endless rotating, porous guide belts limit the channel above and below. An endless rotary web-tentering frame passing along the through-channel limited by the guide belts conveys a web of material to be treated through the at least one drying station, wherein a first vertical distance between the frame and a lower strand of the upper guide belt and a second vertical distance between an upper strand of the lower guide belt are defined such that, as the apparatus operates, within a predetermined effective range of a hot-air nozzle directed thereon, a web, in a locally limited area, secured in and conveyed by the webtenter frame, comes into contact with a portion of a corresponding guide belt, whereby the lower and/or upper guide belt moves at greater speed than that of the tenter frame. A supply mechanism for conveying the web to be treated to the tenter frame includes a device for securing the material with forward slip to the tenter frame.

A passive infrared intrusion detector for the detection of infrared body radiation includes a sabotage detector, in particular for detecting spraying of the entrance window of the intrusion detector. The sabotage detector includes a light source, a corresponding light sensor, and an optical diffraction grating structure on the outside of the entrance window. The light source and the light sensor can be on the same or on opposite sides of the entrance window. By first- or higher-order diffraction, light from the light source is focused onto the sensor, and a resulting electrical signal from the sensor is evaluated by an evaluation circuit. In case of sabotage, the focusing effect of the optical diffraction grating structure vanishes, so that the light intensity at the detector is reduced. The drop in light intensity triggers a sabotage alarm signal.

Passive infrared intrusion detector and its use

Optical smoke detectors such as extinction smoke detectors and scattered-light smoke detectors include a radiation source, a radiation detector or receiver, and a measurement volume which is in communication with ambient atmosphere and which is traversed by a light path from the radiation source to the radiation receiver. For compactness and simplicity, such an optical smoke detector is provided with a planar-optical element in the optical path. Suitable as planar-optical elements are diffractive elements, e.g., holographic-optical elements (HOE), and micro-Fresnel elements (MFE), e.g., micro-Fresnel reflectors (MFR).

An infrared intrusion detector uses infrared-sensitive sensors with pyroelectric sensor elements for detecting infrared radiation from a spatial region to be monitored. Infrared radiation passes through an entrance window and reaches the sensor elements via focusing mirrors. Extraneous radiation, outside the useful radiation band, is eliminated by filtering at the entrance window and by an optical transmission filter, and by scattering at suitable rough surfaces of the focusing mirrors. As a result, the infrared intrusion detector is less sensitive to extraneous radiation and less likely to produce false alarms.

In fire detector apparatus for monitoring an extended area from an elevated location, and especially for detecting forest fires, a scanning assembly (1) has azimuthal freedom of movement. A row of adjoining infrared detector element pairs (S, S') is disposed on a common support (7) in the focal plane of a reflector (6). Detector extent or area increases from the optical axis upward, and the detectors are connected with decreasingly sensitive circuitry. As a result, detection areas having different elevations have nearly equal distance range, and detection sensitivity is essentially independent of distance so that a remote forest fire is detected with the same degree of certainty as one close by. For the elimination of false alarms due to diffuse thermal radiation, detector elements are arranged in pairs, side-by-side on the same support (7), and connected in differential circuitry. For the elimination of false alarms due to intense sunlight, light-sensitive solar cells are connected in parallel with the infrared detectors in an inhibition circuit.

Apparatus for wide-area fire detection

An infrared detector is described for monitoring a corridor like room having a plurality of focusing means for the collection of infrared radiation emitted by an intruder. The field of view of each focusing means is oriented so as to form a continuous field of coverage in the space to be monitored, without gaps or areas of limited sensitivity. Furthermore, the solid angle subtended by each focusing means is chosen so that the sum of the energy received from the intruder in the monitored area and focused onto the infrared sensor by the multiple focusing means is insensitive to and independent of the range of the intruder from the monitoring device.

Range insensitive infrared intrusion detector

An intrusion detector with a plurality of reflector segments that focus infrared energy from a corresponding plurality of detection zones onto a common sensor. Uniform coverage of a rectangular area with detection zones and detection sensitivity unaffected by distance is achieved by means of a reflector segment arrangement in which the reflector segments are mounted on supporting structures and in which the distance from the sensor and therefore the focal length of the reflector segments is substantially proportional to the detection distance. The reflector segments are staggered horizontally and vertically on the supporting structures such that the centrally positioned reflector segments are set lower and have a different shape than the laterally positioned segments, and whereby the number of reflector segments is reduced with decreasing detection distance such that the density of the detection zones is uniform throughout the retangular protected room.

In a reflection light barrier, improved security against sabotage is achieved through the simultaneous use of radiation with opposite types of polarization, e.g., by means of radiations polarized linearly perpendicular to one another, or radiations polarized circularly with opposite directions of rotation. The two types of polarization are processed separately by the receiver and when there is any disturbance of the equilibrium between the two types of polarization, a disturbance signal is triggered. Placed in front of the transmitter and reflector are polarizing filters with zones of opposite polarization and with different areas which are tuned to one another in such a way that equilibrium is produced at the receiver. In another variant there is provided, in front of the reflector, a quarter-wave plate which rotates the plane of polarization of the transmitted radiation 90.degree., and the receiver separately evaluates the two planes of polarization in order to give alarm and disturbance signals.

In a light barrier, especially for outside application and long distances monitored, insensitivity to interfering light and scattering through fumes or fog and an increased range and sensitivity to objects passing through the light barrier are achieved by subdividing radiation from a source into two radiation branches which are offset relative to each other and differently polarized, e.g., by means of a polarization filter divided into two parts, with different linear or oppositely circular polarization of the filter part surfaces. By means of an analogously subdivided polarization filter, the radiation of each of the two radiation branches is focused on a different individual sensor element. The two sensor elements are connected in a differential circuit which triggers an alarm signal in response to signals arriving from both radiation branches in short succession but does not trigger an alarm signal if both sensor elements are equally irradiated.

In an infrared intrusion detector which evaluates the body radiation of an intruder by means of a dual radiation sensor having two sensor elements arranged in a differential circuit for emitting an alarm signal, a functional supervision and detection of an attempt at sabotage, e.g., by covering or spraying the entrance window, are achieved by asymmetric irradiation of the two sensor elements through the entrance window by a radiation source. The asymmetry can be achieved by disposing the radiation source outside the plane of symmetry of the sensor elements or by an asymmetrically disposed auxiliary reflector.

Infrared intrusion detector

An infrared intrusion detector having a predetermined number of rows of radiation reception zones comprises a primary reflector and a secondary reflector for each row of radiation reception zones. The primary reflectors and their associated secondary reflectors form a folded radiation path. The folded radiation path allows for compact construction and simple manufacturing of the infrared intrusion detector. One reflector of each radiation reception zone forms together with the infrared sensor a compact structural unit. The other reflectors of each radiation reception zone are combined to form a further structural unit which is arranged in a predetermined spaced relationship to the first compact structural unit. In order to achieve uniform detection sensitivity in radiation reception zones having different angles of inclination to the horizontal plane, a larger focal length is chosen for radiation reception zones with smaller angles of inclination and longer range. Likewise, to achieve uniform detection sensitivity even with oblique infrared radiation impingement, the surface area of the primary reflectors increases within each horizontal row from the middle to the sides.
