A powered grip that can engage and hold an item which includes a primary body member, an actuator dependent from the primary body member and a pair of spaced apart clamp jaws to move towards and away from each other. A force transmission mechanism is operatively located intermediate of the actuator and each of the clamp jaws to displace the clamp jaws relative to the primary body and that, through mechanical advantage, establishes a multiplication of the force of the actuator force at the clamp jaws. A force transmission mechanism geometry adjuster is provided to vary the spacing between the clamp jaws for any given operating force applied by the actuator, allow the pre-testing setting of the spacing between the jaws such that the range of force applied by the clamping jaws to the item to be tested is within a desired range.

Powdered grip clamping force

A micro-impact testing apparatus for measuring the impact characteristics of a microelectronics specimen exposed to an impact thereon. The apparatus comprises of a specimen holder for receiving a specimen to be tested, and an impact device. The impact device comprises of an impact head, a support member, at least one connecting element and a first flexural spring. The support member is connected to the connecting element in that the first flexural spring is firmly attached with its one end to the support member and with its other end to the connecting element. A second flexural spring, being at least substantially identical to said first flexural spring, is firmly attached with its one end to the connecting element and with its other end to the impact head so that the ends of the first and second flexural springs define, in an unloaded state of the flexural springs, a rectangle. The impact head is moveable transversally with respect to the first and second flexural springs along a linear line between a spring-loaded position and an impact position thereof. The specimen holder is aligned with the impact device such that the specimen is arranged in said impact position of the impact head so that the impact head is capable of impacting on the specimen after traveling from its loaded position towards its impact position along said linear line upon release thereof from said loaded position.

Micro-impact testing apparatus

A wedge action grip for tensile or similar testing is provided with a pair of jaws wherein at least one jaw includes a swiveling element with a gripping surface. The jaw and associated swiveling element may have cylindrical swiveling surfaces whereby the swiveling element swivels with a single degree of freedom about a vertical or horizontal axis or may have spherical swiveling surfaces whereby the swiveling element swivels with two degrees of freedom about a point. The two jaws may have different swivel characteristics, and one of the jaws may have a non-swiveling fixed gripping surface.
