An optical measuring device is provided. An actuator of a reference mirror set drives a reference mirror to move back and forth at a scan velocity. A first light source module transmits a first light beam to an optical coupling module transmitting two parts of the first light beam respectively to an examinee object and the reference mirror set. The first light beam then is reflected by the examinee object and reference mirror set and then transmitted to the optical coupling module and the processing unit. The second light source module transmits a second light beam to the examinee object. Then the second light beam is reflected and then transmitted to the second sensing unit. The second sensing unit provides a sensing signal to the processing unit which accordingly provides a value of the relative velocity. The thickness is calculated according to the relative velocity and the scan velocity.

Optical measuring device and method

A spindle motor, especially for an optical disc drive, includes a bearing system, a shaft and a magnetic apparatus. The bearing system thereon a radial orientation is defined. The shaft is rotatably inserted into the bearing system and rotates relative to the bearing system during operation of the spindle motor. The magnetic apparatus functions by applying a magnetic force on the shaft, toward the radial orientation of the bearing system, to inhibit a Half-omega whirl (HOW) of the shaft induced during rotation of the shaft relative to the bearing system.

The present invention provides a disk drive housing. The housing includes a panel, an upper housing, and a base plate. The upper housing extends to form a first extension and a second extension. The panel has a first slot and a second slot, which engage with the first extension and the second extension respectively. The panel further has a third slot and a fourth slot. The upper housing further includes a third extension engaged with the third slot. The base plate includes a fourth extension engaged with the fourth slot.

Disk drive housing

A disc-loading device includes a loading arm, a holding device, a guiding rail, and a guiding slot. The loading arm has a first end and a second end. The first end is connected to and movable along the guiding rail. The second end has a roller inset into the guiding slot. Due to the guiding function of the guiding rail and the guiding slot, the loading arm is able to shift along the guiding rail or rotate around its axis. The holding device for holding the disc is provided on the loading arm by means of rotatory movement with respect to the loading arm.

Disc drive loading device

A stopper structure is constructed at a lateral side of an upper cover of a disc drive housing to prevent a flying-away disc from leaving the housing. The stopper structure with a predetermined inward-angle tip can generate a lift to drive the disc away from an aperture located between the upper cover and a base tray while hitting the lateral side. Thereby, the straying disc can thus be self-locked inside the housing.

A retaining ring for use with a shaft is provided. The retaining ring is in shape of a thin plate and includes a plurality of pedal-like portions with any two adjacent pedal-like portion being connected to each other by a deformable connection portion. The plurality of pedal-like portions defines a channel at the center of the retaining ring for passage of the shaft. As the shaft enters the channel, the connection portion deforms in response.
