A mechanism for selectively activating a plurality of downhole pathways. The method includes a casing segment which includes a plurality of casing ribs, a valve which includes a sleeve coupled for movement between an open and normally closed position, a rocker member mounted to the sleeve, a dart for pumping in hole including a dart profile matched to the rocker member profile such that the dart profile couples to the rocker member profile when in close proximity and, in turn, the sleeve moves using hydraulic force from the closed position to the open position.

Apparatus and methods for activating a plurality of downhole devices

A high temperature downhole packer including a tubular member, an annular and longitudinally movable ring, and a packer. The tubular member has a stop located on an outer diameter thereof. The annular and longitudinally movable ring is disposed around the outer diameter of the tubular member. The packer element is disposed between the stop and the ring. The packer element includes a high temperature elastomeric polymer having a first storage modulus from about 1,000 MPa to about 10,000 MPa at a first temperature between about &#x2212;100&#xb0; C. and about 175&#xb0; C., and a second storage modulus from about 1 MPa to about 1000 MPa at a second temperature ranging from about 175&#xb0; C. to about 475&#xb0; C.

Ultra high temperature packer by high-temperature elastomeric polymers

The system and method for setting a completion tool within a wellbore includes assembling a mandrel, inner sleeve, piston, outer sleeve, and dog member. In a first locked position, the dog member abuts against the indentation of the mandrel and the locking surface of the piston. The dog member is friction fit between the piston and mandrel so that movement of the completion tool corresponds to movement of the mandrel. The mechanical link, such as shear pins, of the completion tool is protected by the dog member holding steady on the mandrel. When the completion tool reaches the desired location, a pressure pulse opens a chamber between the sleeves to transition to a second released position. The dog member releases from the mandrel to be housed in the chamber, when movement of the mandrel sets the completion tool by the mechanical link, such as shear pins.

System and method for setting a completion tool

Systems and methods use enhanced flow control devices that can be selectively closed completely or have its effective flow area reduced to restrict production (or injection) by use of a chemical trigger mechanism. In addition, some of the systems deploy specific targeted chemical tracers, dissolvable in the unwanted production fluid (e.g., water or gas). These chemical tracers once dissolved will enter the production stream and be identified at the surface. An appropriate chemical trigger can be placed, for example, by pumping down through the tubing and utilizing intelligent completion valve to place the chemical, or by spotting with coiled tubing and bullhead to the formation. The chemical trigger will only trigger the active chemical in the appropriate flow control device.

Utilizing swellable materials to control fluid flow

A mechanism for moving elements in a fluid filled housing using a pump with the element to be moved attached rigidly to the pump or to a port assembly connected to the pump. The pump assembly or port assembly moves as a result of differential pressure created between a first and a second chamber separated from each other by the pump assembly or port assembly. Movement of the fluid in one direction increases or decreases pressure, the pressure change resulting in a net force in one direction or the other.

Mechanical system for movement along a housing axis

A technique includes wirelessly communicating between a first telemetry unit and a second telemetry unit in a well completion. The communicating causes a leakage current between the first and second telemetry units. The technique includes monitoring the leakage current to detect a change in location of a formation fluid layer.

Oilfield apparatus and method comprising swellable elastomers

A technique enables wireless communication of signals in a well. The technique is employed for communication of power signals and/or data signals between a mother wellbore and at least one lateral wellbore. A first wireless device is positioned in a mother wellbore proximate a lateral wellbore, and a second wireless device is positioned in the lateral wellbore. The power and/or data signal is transferred wirelessly between the first and second wireless devices via magnetic fields. A plurality of the first and second wireless devices may be employed in cooperating pairs to enable communication between the mother wellbore and a plurality of lateral wellbores.

A swellable packer including a first retainer, a second retainer, a swellable element, a piston, and a piston lock. The second retainer is spaced axially apart from the first retainer. The swellable element is at least partially disposed between and fixed to the first and second retainers. The piston is fixed to the second retainer and configured to move the second retainer from a first position in which the swellable element is unstrained, to a second position in which the swellable element is strained. The piston lock is configured to releasably fix the second retainer in the second position.

An intelligent well system may include a first main bore transmission assembly disposed in a main bore and a first lateral bore transmission assembly disposed in a lateral bore. The first main bore transmission assembly may include a first main bore transmission unit, and the first lateral bore transmission assembly may include a first lateral bore transmission unit. The first main bore transmission unit and the first lateral bore transmission unit may be configured to establish a wireless connection there between, such that at least one of power or telemetry can be wirelessly transmitted. The first main bore transmission assembly may be configured to be communicatively connected to a surface communication device.

Wireless power and telemetry transmission between connections of well completions

A mechanism for selectively activating a plurality of downhole pathways including a) a valve having: i) a sleeve coupled for movement between an open and normally closed position; and ii) a valve magnet set mounted to the sleeve; and b) a dart for pumping in hole including a dart magnet set matched to the valve magnet set such that the dart couples to the valve when in close proximity and, in turn, the sleeve moves from the closed position to the open position.

A downhole trigger mechanism and method for using the same are provided. The downhole trigger mechanism can include at least two contact points spaced a longitudinal distance from one another. The trigger mechanism can be actuated when the contact points of the trigger mechanism are simultaneously contacted by at least two contact points of an actuator. The contact points of the actuator can be spaced a longitudinal distance from one another.

A bottom hole assembly for drilling a cavity including a chassis configured to rotate is provided. The chassis may include a conduit, a circuit, a pressure transfer device, a plurality of pistons, a plurality of valves, and a plurality of cutters. The conduit may accept a first flow of a primary fluid. The circuit may have a second flow of a secondary fluid. The pressure transfer device may be configured to transfer pressure between the flows. The pistons may be operably coupled with the circuit, and each piston may be configured to move based at least in part on a pressure of the circuit at that piston, with the valves possibly configured to control a pressure of the circuit at each piston. Each cutter may be coupled with one of the pistons.

A logging tool includes a tool body; a simple transmitter comprising a single antenna disposed on the tool body; four simple receivers, each comprising a single antenna, disposed on the tool body and spaced apart from the simple transmitter to form four arrays; and an electronic module for controlling operation of the four arrays, wherein the simple transmitter is configured to generate a magnetic field having a transverse component, wherein each of the four simple receivers is sensitive to the magnetic field generated by the simple transmitter, and at least one of the four simple receivers is sensitive to the transverse component of the magnetic field generated by the simple transmitter, and wherein the four arrays are configured to provide measurements at least three depths of investigation.
