The top portion of a material for a rail of a linear guide is formed in a convex shape. In this convex shape, portions protruding to the side of a top surface are removed beforehand by rolling raceway grooves in side portions of a member of rectangular section, the top surface of which is flat. A rail made from this material by rolling raceway grooves in side portions have a flat top surface.

A process of manufacturing a rail of a linear guide is described. The process includes preparing a material for a rail wherein the material has a surface formed in a convex shap and two side surface. The method includes a rolling process of forming raceway grooves in the side surfaces of the material and a process for making a mounting hole after the rolling process in such a manner that the mounting hole opens to at least either surface.

When working a linear guide rail having one or more raceway grooveson the side surfaces thereof, using rotary dies each including on the circumferential portion thereof a projection-shaped working portion matched in shape to the raceway groove, the raceway groovesare rolled onto a rail blank work W. Since the raceway groovescan be rolled with high accuracy by a single working step, the working time of the raceway grooves as well as the working cost thereof can be reduced.

Linear guide rail and method for working same

When working a linear guide rail having one or more raceway grooves on the side surfaces thereof, using rotary dies each including on the circumferential portion thereof a projection-shaped working portion matched in shape to the raceway groove the raceway grooves are rolled onto a rail blank work W. The ball supply chute 57 is provided with the inner chute portion 57a connecting the inner polishing circuits with the outer ball guiding passage 55, and the outer chute portion 57b connecting the outer polishing circuits with the inner ball guiding passage 56. The ball discharge chute 58 is provided with the inner discharge chute portion 58a connecting the inner polishing circuits with the inner ball guiding passage 56, and the outer discharge chute portion 58b connecting the outer polishing circuits with the outer ball guiding passage 57.
