An in-plane switching mode active matrix type liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate located opposing the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second substrates. The first substrate includes a thin film transistor, a pixel electrode each associated to a pixel to be driven, a common electrode to which a reference voltage is applied, data lines, a scanning line, and common electrode lines. Molecular axes of liquid crystal are rotated in a plane parallel with the first substrate by an electric field substantially parallel with a plane of the first substrate to thereby display certain images. The common electrode is composed of transparent material and are formed on a layer located closer to the liquid crystal layer than the data lines. The common electrode entirely overlaps the data lines except an area where the data lines are located in the vicinity of the scanning line. The liquid crystal display device further includes a light-impermeable layer in an area where the common electrode entirely overlaps the data lines. The light-impermeable layer is comprised of a black matrix layer having a width smaller than a width of the common electrode.

In-plane switching mode active matrix type liquid crystal display device and method of fabricating the same

Disclosed is an in-plane switching active matrix type liquid crystal display with greater improvements on color shifting and contrast. The liquid crystal display comprises an in-plane switching type liquid crystal display panel having an active device substrate, an opposing substrate and a liquid crystal layer held sandwiched between the active device substrate and the opposing substrate, a first polarizer laid out on one side of the liquid crystal display panel, a second polarizer laid out on the opposite side of the liquid crystal display panel, first to third optical compensators placed in order between the liquid crystal display panel and the first polarizer, and a fourth optical compensator placed between the liquid crystal display panel and the second polarizer. As the first to fourth optical compensators are provided to compensate for retardation of the liquid crystal layer and retardation of the polarizers, black stretching does not occur even when observation is made from any viewing angle, and a reduction in contrast does not occur. Nor does color shifting occur at the time of displaying black.

Active matrix type liquid crystal display

Active matrix in-plane switching type liquid crystal display and compensator arrangement

An in-plane switching mode liquid crystal display device includes a substrate, a scanning line formed on the substrate, a data line formed above the substrate to cross the scanning line while interposing an insulation film between the data line and the scanning line, and a transparent common electrode interconnect line located farther the substrate than the scanning line and the data line and having a width longer than those of the scanning line and the data line, and further, formed to geometrically cover the scanning line and the data line. The construction of the device makes it possible to make all electric fields from the data line and the scanning line terminate on the common electrode interconnect line. Forming the common electrode interconnect line with a transparent conductive material maintains the aperture ratio of the device.

In-plane switching mode liquid crystal display device

An in-plane switching mode active matrix type liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate located opposing the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second substrates. The first substrate includes a thin film transistor, a pixel electrode, a common electrode, a data line, a scanning line, and a common electrode line. The scanning line and the common electrode line are formed in a common layer in parallel with each other. The common electrode overlaps the data line and the scanning line with an interlayer insulating film existing therebetween. The common electrode line is singly formed at either side about the scanning line. The common electrode is electrically connected to the common electrode line through a contact hole formed throughout the interlayer insulating film, and shields a gap formed between the scanning line and the common electrode line.

In an in-plane switching (IPS) mode active matrix type liquid crystal display device, data lines supplied with data signals, common electrode wiring portions and applied with a reference voltage, a common electrode , pixel electrodes corresponding to pixels to be displayed, scanning lines supplied with scan signals and TFT's are provided on an active element substrate . The common electrode wiring portions and are formed by using a first metal layer, extend in parallel to the scanning line and connected to a common electrode potential at a peripheral portion thereof. Protruded portions and are formed in at least one of the common electrode wiring portions and in such a way that the protruded portions are positioned on both sides of the data line to be formed later. Unevenness of display of the display device is reduced and the aperture ratio thereof is improved.

Active matrix type liquid crystal display device having particular positioning reference pattern and fabrication method thereof

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second substrates, a plurality of scanning lines arranged on the first substrate, a plurality of signal lines arranged on the first substrate, a plurality of first switches arranged at intersections of the scanning lines and the signal lines, a plurality of pixel electrodes each electrically connected to each of the first switches, a plurality of opposing electrodes each arranged in parallel with each of the pixel electrodes, and a signal line driver which switches a first voltage for driving a positive pole and a second voltage for driving a negative pole at a predetermined interval in accordance with a gradation, and outputs the positive or negative driving voltage to the signal lines, the signal line driver compensating for the first and second voltages such that averages of the first and second voltages in each of gradations are different from one another.

Liquid crystal display device and method of driving the same

An active-matrix LCD device drives the LCD panel by using a dot reversible driving technique. The switching between two sets of input signals or two resolution modes is conducted by applying a DC voltage between the pixel electrode and the common electrode in each pixel before restart of the image display of a switched signal. The DC voltage has the same polarity among the pixels in the pixel array to thereby reduce the flicker after the restart of the image display.
