A projector includes: a display device which modulates illumination light; a projection lens which projects modulation light produced by the display device; and a holding device which has a holder member supporting the display device, a frame member supporting the projection lens and functions as a base capable of supporting the holder member, and an expanding and contracting member disposed between the frame member and the display device, wherein a temperature coefficient for the expansion and contraction of the expanding and contracting member in the direction of the optical axis of the projection lens corresponds to a temperature coefficient for the increase and decrease of the focal distance of the projection lens.

A projector includes a projection optical device and a projection position adjusting device that includes a fixed member defining a hole having a step portion, a first plate that supports the projection optical device and a second plate disposed between the fixed member and the first plate. The projection position adjusting device further includes a connecting member having a step and being disposed in the hole of the fixed member and connected to the first plate, and an urging member disposed between the connecting member and the step portion of the hole of the fixed member. The urging member urges the step portion of the hole and the step of the connecting member away from each other, and urges the first plate into direct contact with the fixed member.

A projector includes: a projection position adjusting device that adjusts a projection position of a projection optical device. The projection position adjusting device includes: adjusting and driving units that move a first moving plate and a second moving plate. The adjusting and driving unit include: a pair of worms that have a columnar shape and have threads on outer circumferences thereof; and a pair of sliders that are screwed in the pair of worms, respectively. The pair of worms are disposed to extend along the first direction or the second direction. One of the sliders engages with one of moving plates. Engaging structures including inclining engaging holes that extend in a direction crossing the direction in the plane orthogonal to the projecting direction and engaging projections inserted through the inclining engaging holes are provided in the other slider and the other moving plate.

A projector includes a light source, an optical modulation device to form an optical image, a projection optical device, and a projection position adjusting device to adjust the projection position. The projection position adjusting device includes a fixed member, a moving member a dial knob, a drive mechanism that transmit rotation of the dial knob, and a reference position detecting mechanism. The reference position detecting mechanism includes a spiral rail guiding section having a groove shape provided to a side face of the dial knob adjacent to the fixed member, along the rotational direction of the dial knob, a sliding section that slides in the guiding section with the rotation of the dial knob, and an engaging section provided to the guiding section, and engages with the sliding section upon the projection position of the projection optical device reaching the projection reference position.
