The invention is to provide a leather-like sheet having a fine image drawn by an inkjet printing method, etc., on its surface and having practically sufficient physical properties. This invention includes a leather-like sheet including (i) a fibrous substrate and (ii) a porous layer thereon, the porous layer having a surface having open pores with a diameter of 1 &#x3bc;m or more and the porous layer having the surface having an image whose definition is 5 dots/mm or more, and a process for the production thereof.

Leather-like sheet and process for the production thereof

Provided is a leatherlike sheet material which has a base material (I) comprising a nonwoven fabric (A) constituted with ultrafine-fiber bundles having single fineness of no greater than 0.2 de, a high molecular elastomer (B) and a high molecular elastomer (C), and in which a grained surface layer (II) comprising a high molecular elastomer (C)-constituted surface porous layer (D) and a surface finishing layer (E) is formed on at least one side of the surfaces of the base material (I), wherein the leatherlike sheet material is characterized in that the apparent density of the base material (I), the weight ratio of the nonwoven fabric (A) to the high molecular weight elastomer (B) and the high molecular elastomer (C) in the base material (I), the thickness of the grained surface layer (II), and the ratios of 20%-elongation load (&sgr;20)/5%-elongation load (&sgr;5) in the longitudinal direction and the transverse direction of the leatherlike sheet material satisfy their own specific ranges.

A microporous sheet suitably used as a substrate for artificial leather for its good balance in properties such as softness, abrasion resistance and the like, obtained by impregnating a non-woven fabric with an elastic polymer and then coagulating the impregnated polymer, said non-woven fabric being a blend of (a) an aromatic polyester fiber (fiber A) and (b) a polyolefin or aliphatic polyamide fiber (fiber B), which sheet is scattered with portions where the fiber A is surrounded by the elastic polymer in a bonded state and portions where the fiber B is surrounded by the elastic polymer in a not-bonded state.
