The problem to be solved by the present invention lies in making it possible to reduce costs and to reduce the size of an oil pump, without impeding the degree of freedom in chain layout. An oil jetis constructed in order to supply lubricating oil to a tension-side span of a chain C while also causing a tensioning force to act on a slack-side span of the chain C. A clip-type mechanism for tensioning slack in a chain. A spring-biased piston is positioned in a bore in a housing. A ratchet rack is positioned on the piston, along with a clip member. A recess in the housing bore has an annular member with a hardened surface to reduce wear.

Clip-type tensioner

A clip-type tensioner member having a piston in a housing and a ratchet mechanism. A plurality of rack teeth are formed on the outer periphery of the pistons. A clip member elastically engages with the rack teeth and is positioned in a recess in the housing. The points of contact of the clip member on the housing are different in the retracted and engaged positions.

The present invention is directed to varying the oil pressure in the chamber of a hydraulic tensioner at multi-stages and preventing an increase of the chain friction at various driving conditions. A hydraulic tensioner () includes a housing () that has a plunger bore () to slidably receive the plunger () and a spool bore () to slidably receive the spool (). The housing () further has an inner relief aperture () to provide a connection between the plunger bore and the spool bore and outside relief apertures () to provide a connection between the spool bore and the outside of the housing. The entire opening areas of the inside and outside relief apertures () provide a connection between the plunger bore and the outside of the housing through the spool bore () and vary at least at two stages in accordance with the travel of the spool ().

Hydraulic tensioner

Chain parts and other steel articles are provided with hard, wear-resistant carbide coatings by tumbling them in a heated retort with a particulate mix which includes a source of vanadium and/or niobium. The steel substrate comprises a steel having at least 0.2% carbon, preferably 0.7-1.2%. Where the chromium content of the steel is 4-12%, preferably 4-8%, the chemical deposition process includes drawing a small amount of chromium from the steel substrate into the vanadium or niobium carbide coating, where it is distributed substantially homogeneously, helping to provide adhesion strength to the coating.
