A belt fixing unit has a fixing roller and a pressing roller that are provided in a pair midway along a transport passage through which paper having a toner image formed thereon is transported from bottom to top approximately in a vertical direction and that fix the toner image on the paper, a heating roller that is provided parallel to and in a position approximately horizontal to the fixing roller and that incorporates a heater for heating the fixing roller, and a fixing belt that is formed as an endless belt and that is wound around and between the fixing roller and the heating roller. A non-contact temperature sensor for controlling the fixing temperature is provided on a non-contact basis in the paper passage region on the surface of the upper one of the parts of the fixing belt facing each other up and down between the fixing roller and the heating roller.

Belt fixing unit

A belt driving apparatus for driving a belt has the belt hung around and between rollers, and has a meandering prevention member provided in each end part of each roller to restrict the meandering of the belt in the roller axial direction. A cut is formed to be open toward the roller end face and to extend in the roller axial direction, and a boss that fits into the cut is formed on the inner circumference of the meandering prevention member.

Belt driving apparatus

A fixing device is disclosed that includes a fixing roller, a pressure roller that is in pressure contact with the fixing roller, a plurality of belt support rollers that are mutually spaced apart from each other, and an endless belt that is wrapped around the belt support rollers. A portion of the outer peripheral surface of the endless belt is in pressure contact with a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the fixing roller, and the endless belt is heated by at least one heat generating element arranged in at least one of the belt support rollers. The fixing roller is rotatively driven by the electric motor M.

A fixing unit includes: a casing; a heat roller that is rotatably supported and that supplies heat for fixing; and a tubular heater disposed in parallel in the heat roller along an axis thereof. The tubular heater includes a lead wire having a protruding end portion protruding outwardly from an axial end portion thereof. In addition, the tubular heater includes a flat terminal having one face thereof connected and fixed to the protruding end portion. Moreover, a fitting surface for fixing the flat terminal is formed in the casing. The fitting surface is arranged to be flat in an area excluding an area in which the protruding end portion is disposed and is provided with a clearance for storing the protruding end portion. Further, the flat terminal is fixed to the fitting surface with the one face of the flat terminal facing the fitting surface.

A pair of fixing section discharge rollersis arranged on the downstream side, with respect to the paper conveying direction, of a fixing sectionincluding a fixing rollerand a pressing roller. Near the fixing section, a openable sectionis provided that makes externally accessible the paper conveying passage on the downstream side of the fixing section. The openable sectionhas the axis of its pivot portionaligned with the axis of the pressing roller, and is rotatable about the pivot portion. The fixing section discharge rollersare mounted on the openable section. If a paper jam occurs on the downstream side of the fixing section, when the openable sectionis opened, a wide space is secured on the downstream side of the fixing section, and the paper P stuck in the conveying nip between the fixing section discharge rollersis automatically brought outward.

A fixing unit includes: a heat roller that is rotatably supported and that supplies heat for fixing; and a first and a second tubular heaters that are disposed in parallel in the heat roller along an axis thereof and that each have on an outer circumferential surface thereof one protruding residual fused tip, namely, tip portion. As viewed from a side end surface of the heat roller, the tip portions of the first and second tubular heaters are oriented directly opposite to each other with respect to the connection line connecting centers of the first and second tubular heaters.

A fixing device is provided with a fixing roller and a pressure roller that presses against the fixing roller, and is configured such that an endless belt that is wound around a plurality of belt support rollers presses against the fixing roller and the fixing roller is heated via the endless belt by heat from a heating means mounted inside at least one of the plurality of belt support rollers, wherein the pressure roller is configured to be capable of relatively pressing against and moving apart from the fixing roller and the endless belt is configured to be capable of relatively pressing against and moving apart from the fixing roller.

Fixing device

A fixing device is disclosed that includes a fixing roller, a pressure roller that is in pressure contact with the fixing roller, first and second belt support rollers that are mutually spaced apart from each other, and an endless belt that is wrapped around both the first and the second belt support rollers. A portion of the outer peripheral surface of the endless belt is in pressure contact with a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the fixing roller, and the endless belt is heated by means of a heating means. The fixing roller is rotatively driven by the electric motor M.

A jam detecting device according to the present invention quickly outputs a jam detection signal when a part of a sheet is insufficiently conveyed during conveyance. A discharge detecting switch 55 is provided in the vicinity of discharge rollers 36. In addition, a plurality of (for example, three) pulse output units 230, 231 and 232 are provided in relation to the discharge detecting switch 55. Each of the pulse output units 230, 231 and 232 is so constructed as to output a pulse as the sheet is moved. In a jam judging circuit 235, when a signal of the discharge detecting switch 55 is on, a jam signal is outputted on the basis of the fact that no pulses are applied for not less than a predetermined time period from at least one of the pulse output units 230, 231 and 232. When a Jam occurs, therefore, the jam can be quickly detected. Consequently, the jam can be detected before a large sheet is crumpled or is tangled with a delivery roller in an image forming apparatus, whereby measures against the jam is easily taken.
