The disclosure relates in some aspects to enabling a user terminal (UT) to obtain information about nearby cells and any beams generated by nearby cells. For example, a network can send a neighbor cell list to UTs, where the list identifies the cells in that neighborhood and provides information about any beams generated by those cells. Thus, a UT can learn the neighboring beams/cells that the UT can reselect to if the current beam/cell becomes weak. In some aspects, the UE can learn the attitude (e.g., pitch, roll, yaw, or any combination thereof) profile of neighboring satellites as well as the pointing angles and the ON-OFF schedules of their beams. In some aspects, the UT can learn a start angle and a span for a satellite and use this information to identify a satellite the UT can reselect to if the current beam/cell becomes weak.

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for sending a retransmission of codewords of a data packet to a receiver node, that were not previously successfully received by the receiver node, in a manner compatible with a receive capability constraint of the receiver node.

Various aspects of the disclosure relate to managing ephemeris information. Provisions are made for providing ephemeris information to a user terminal (UT). Messages are defined for sending ephemeris information and for requesting ephemeris information. Ephemeris information for a subset of the satellites in a constellation may be sent to a UT to reduce signaling load. A UT may manage a database of ephemeris information to ensure freshness of the ephemeris information.

Ephemeris information management for satellite communication

The disclosure relates in some aspects to forbidden area procedures and connection release management for a user terminal (UT). Forbidden area-related procedures include, for example, using a special paging area code (PAC) in conjunction with a forbidden area, defining a location reporting threshold for a UT based on the proximity of the UT to a forbidden area, or using a default paging area code if a service restriction for a UT has ended. Connection release management includes, for example, a UT sending a request to cause the release of a Radio Connection that the UT no longer needs, or a UT sending a Location Indication (e.g., including a flag requesting release of a connection) to release the connection used for location reporting when a UT is done sending the location information and is going to go back to idle mode.

Forbidden area procedures and connection release management

The disclosure relates in some aspects to managing paging area information for a user terminal (UT) and connection signaling. In some aspects, paging area information is provided for an idle UT by defining a default paging area code (PAC) that is known by the network and the UT. In some aspects, paging area information is communicated via connection signaling. In some aspects, connection signaling may be used to force a UT to invoke an update procedure (e.g., a reconnection).

A message may be too long to be sent all at once. For example, there may be a limit on the number of bits that can be transmitted by a device operating in a power-save mode. The disclosure relates in some aspects to sending a message over packet boundaries (e.g., several frames or sub-frames). The disclosure relates in some aspects to segmenting a Broadcast Information Block and sending the resulting segments over broadcast information window boundaries. In some aspects, this information may be sent via overhead channels. To facilitate this segmentation, information about the segmentation may be included in the information sent from the transmitter to the receiver. For example, a first segment may indicate the number of segments and subsequent segments may indicate the segment number.

Dynamically segmenting information according to at least one criterion

The disclosure relates in some aspects to location reporting and paging for satellite communication. In one aspect, the disclosure relates to a user terminal (UT) sending a message to report information about the UT's location. A threshold may be used to control whether (e.g., when) the UT reports its location. The location information may be used to enforce area (e.g., country) restrictions for the UT. In one aspect, the disclosure relates to forwarding paging messages between network access controllers. For example, a network access controller that is not able to page a UT may forward a paging message to another network access controller. In one aspect, the disclosure relates to a list of paging areas that indicates where a UT need not perform a paging area update.

A method is described for adapting the size of data for a future Transmission Time Interval (TTI) by a User Equipment (UE), wherein all the Media Access Control (MAC)-d flows are grouped and stored in different lists based on a type of grants associated with the MAC-d flows, ability of a MAC-d flow to be multiplexed with another MAC-d flow from a list, and data availability in a logical channel mapped onto a MAC-d flow in the current TTI. The E-TFC is then selected by the UE for the future TTI using the MAC-d flow having the highest power offset in a consolidated list including the grouped MAC-d flows. The size of the data is thereby adapted using the selected E-TFC. Further disclosed is a method for generating RLC PDUs by the UE for the future TTI using the variation in the scheduled grant for the UE and the size of the data adapted for the future TTI.

System and method for data size adaptation in a UE

A method and system for handling security synchronization for prolonged periods of no-reception of voice frames. The method includes receiving one or more protocol data units (PDUs) by a radio link control (RLC) sub layer and determining a time period between the receiving of each PDU and a previously received PDU by the RLC sub layer. Further, the method includes initiating recovery procedure for the time period exceeding a first predefined time. The recovery procedure includes identifying count of the one or more PDUs to be recovered, deciphering each PDU using a plurality of hyper frame numbers (HFNs) and updating a master HFN based on the deciphering. The master HFN deciphers each PDU among the one or more protocol data units. Further, the method also includes delivering the one or more PDUs to a packet data convergence protocol sub layer where type verification of the PDU is performed.

A serving cell change method and apparatus is provided for efficiently performing the serving cell change in a mobile communication system. The UE receives a cell change control information including an activation time from a serving cell, when a downlink channel status of the serving cell is inferior to a downlink channel status of a target cell, reports a measurement result to the serving cell while performing data communication with the serving cell, monitors receipt of a cell change indicator transmitted by the target cell before the expiration of the activation time while performing the data communication with the serving cell, and when the cell change indicator is received, communicates data with the target cell by sending an acknowledgement in response to the cell change indicator and switching to the target cell.

Fast serving cell change method and apparatus for mobile communication system

A method and apparatus are provided for determining a Transmission Power Control (TPC) command of an UpLink (UL) channel in a User Equipment (UE). The method includes storing TPC commands received through each Radio Link (RL) for preset combining periods, before entry into Discontinuous Transmission (DTX); combining the stored TPC commands; if all of the TPC commands are UP commands, determining a combined TPC command of the UL channel as a power level derived using a TPC command received in a designated previous DownLink (DL) slot among DL slots included in each RL, and controlling a transmit power of the UL channel, in a current DL slot which uplink transmission is resumed, using a power level corresponding to the determined TPC command.
