A gesture access system includes a local access assembly, a mobile device, an electronic storage medium, and a processor. The local access assembly is adapted to operate between an access state and a no-access state, and includes a controller to effect actuation between the states and a signal receiver. The mobile device includes an Inertial Measurement Unit sensor system configured to measure a motion of the mobile device to conditionally detect a device gesture indicative of an intent of a user to gain access. The storage medium is configured to store an application and a preprogrammed device gesture. The processor is configured to receive the measured motion from the sensor system, and execute the application to compare the measured motion to the preprogrammed device gesture, and depending upon the comparison, output a command signal to the controller of the local access assembly via the receiver to effect actuation between states.

A method of mobile based user authentication includes storing a plurality of categories of data associated with user activity with a mobile device carried or worn by a user. The method also includes analyzing the plurality of categories of data over a recent period of time to determine a user trust score based on a historical period of time, the historical period of time greater than the recent period of time. The method further includes granting access to an access controlled environment if the user trust score is within a predetermined score range.

A gesture access system includes a mobile device having a processor, an electronic storage medium, an environment detector system, and a software-based application. A method of sensor node position determination for a sensor network is provided. A coverage distribution is defined based on a number of sensor nodes and sensor footprints of the sensor nodes. A desired position for each of the sensor nodes is determined based on the coverage distribution and a prior probability distribution defined on a bounded domain for the number of sensor nodes as a minimization of a distance between the coverage distribution and the prior probability distribution. The desired position to configure the sensor nodes is output.
