Disclosed herein are implementations of various technologies for a method for seismic data processing. The method may receive seismic data for a region of interest. The seismic data may be acquired in a seismic survey. The method may determine an exclusion criterion. The exclusion criterion may provide rules for selecting shot points in the acquired seismic data. The method may determine sparse seismic data using statistical sampling based on the exclusion criterion and the acquired seismic data. The method may determine simulated seismic data based on the earth model and shot points corresponding to the sparse seismic data. The method may determine an objective function that represents a mismatch between the sparse seismic data and the simulated seismic data. The method may update the earth model using the objective function.

Seismic data processing

Described herein are implementations of various technologies for a method for seismic data processing. The method may receive seismic data for a region of interest. The seismic data may be acquired in a seismic survey. The method may determine sparse seismic data by selecting shot points in the acquired seismic data using statistical sampling. The method may determine simulated seismic data based on an earth model for the region of interest, a reflection model for the region of interest, and the selected shot points. The method may determine an objective function that represents a mismatch between the sparse seismic data and the simulated seismic data. The method may update the reflection model using the objective function.

A method can include receiving seismic data of a geologic environment; receiving a background model that is a part of a partitioned model of the geologic environment; predicting reflections using the background model; determining incoherence of an offset-dependent matching filter based at least in part on the reflections and the seismic data; based at least in part on the incoherence, adjusting the background model to generate an adjusted background model; and outputting the adjusted background model.

Seismic waveform inversion

Computing systems, computer-readable media, and methods for seismic processing. The method includes receiving seismic data including acquired seismic waveforms that were acquired from a seismic receiver and represent a subterranean area, generating synthetic waveforms based on an initial model of the subterranean area, determining a model error by minimizing a local travel time shift error between one or more of the acquired seismic waveforms and one or more of the synthetic waveforms, and adjusting the initial model based on the model error to generate an adjusted model.

Travel-time objective function for full waveform inversion

A method includes the steps of receiving a wavefield generated by reflections in a subsurface region and recorded by a plurality of seismic receivers and compensating the recorded wavefield for amplitude attenuation. The method further includes modelling a propagation of a source wavefield forward in time, from an initial time-state to a final time-state through an earth model that is representative of the subsurface region, wherein the modelling includes phase and amplitude effects of attenuation and modelling a propagation of the compensated recorded wavefield backward in time from a final time-state to an earlier time-state through the earth model, wherein the subsurface region has an absorption characteristic that dampens the recorded wavefield wherein the modelling includes phase and amplitude effects of attenuation.
