A cutter assembly suitable for cutting BOPP adhesive tape and a tape dispenser incorporating the same. The cutter assembly has a row of plastic teeth where each tooth includes left and right front and rear faces, each face being disposed on a different plane, and where the planes intersect each other at the tip of the tooth. A front edge extends between the left and right front faces; a rear edge extends between the left and right rear faces; a left side edge extends between the right front and rear faces; and a right side edge extends between the left front face and the right rear face. The various edges are set at particular angles relative to each other. A protrusion for supporting the tape is provided rearwardly of the teeth and a braking mechanism is also provided on the dispenser.

A tape dispenser dispenses rolled adhesive tape spirally wound on a hub. The dispenser has first and second side members, and a cutter member. Each of the side members has a first major side portion which overlies a roll of adhesive tape within the tape dispenser. A cylindrical axle portion is formed centrally on the inside surface of the first major side portion of each of the side members, and the cylindrical axle portions are telescopically received one in the other. At least the first side member is flexible in the region of the first major side portion, so that when it is flexed towards the second side member, the telescopic axle becomes shorter, and an interference of the hub and/or the tape with the side members occurs. Thus, a braking effect is imparted to the roll of adhesive tape, so as to preclude unwanted unreeling of the spirally wound adhesive tape from the hub.

A tape dispenser has first and second half-shells, with a dispensing end and a cutter end, and a first cutter member formed in and integral with the first half-shell, and having a plurality of upwardly directed serrations which define serrated cutting teeth at the top ends. First and second cutter retainer walls are provided; and a removable second cutter member is adapted to overlie the serrated cutting teeth of the first cutter member, and having a plurality of serrated cutting teeth of the same size and depth as those of said first cutter member.

A transparent tape roll includes a plurality of windings of tape around a central core and further includes an intermediate non-transparent divider placed mid-way between the core and the outermost winding of tape such that the transparent tape is clear to the divider. The divider is placed such that the number or windings between the outermost winding and the divider, and the innermost winding and the divider is such that reflective index of the transparent material as winding layers build up is not substantial enough to effect the clarity of the transparent tape to the divider or core causing clouding.

A tape dispenser for mailing tape has planar side walls, a front portion having a cover and a cutter member, and a rear portion including hub portions with at least an arcuate portion in the top region so that a roll of mailing tape may be rotatably mounted in the tape dispenser. Cover wing portions extend inwardly from each of the side walls in the upper regions so as to cover the edges of a roll of tape when it is installed in the tape dispenser. Comfort to the hand of the user is assured because the sharp edges of the roll of tape are shielded from the hand. The sidewalls are sufficiently flexible to permit removal and insertion of an empty core or a new roll of tape, and have elastic memory so as to assume their unflexed and planar condition after a new roll of tape has been installed. Typically, the transition between the cover wing portions and the planar side walls is curved. The tape dispenser is injection moulded from a polymeric plastics material.

Hand held tape dispenser

A tape dispenser dispenses rolled adhesive tape spirally wound on a hub having an inner cylindrical wall, and an outer cylindrical wall, and a wide &ldquo;I&rdquo; cross-section. The dispenser has first and second side members, and a cutter member. Each of the side members has a first major side portion which overlies a roll of adhesive tape within the tape dispenser. The cutter member is mounted between second minor side portions of the side members. A cylindrical axle is formed centrally on the inside surface of the first major side portion of at least one of the side members. There is at least one brake spoke upstanding from the inside surface of that side member, radially extending and spaced away from the cylindrical axle. At least the first side member is flexible in the region of the first major side portion. When the at least first side member is flexed towards the second side member, the at least one brake spoke extends into the annular void on the side of the hub which faces the first side member so as to cause frictional engagement between the at least one brake spoke and at least one of the inner and outer cylindrical walls of the hub. Thus, a braking effect is imparted to the hub so as to preclude unreeling of the spirally wound adhesive tape from the hub.
