A processor can be configured to execute instructions stored in the memory to position a first point in a grid space that represents an unmodulated signal component of a first signal based on a characteristic of a frequency modulator generating the first signal. The frequency modulator can include a first input to receive data from a baseband source and can include a second input to receive a second signal from a local oscillator. The processor can determine, in the grid space, a first angle between a first line segment from a reference point to the first point and a second line segment from the first point to a point representing the first offset signal applied to the frequency modulator. The processor can additionally apply a second offset signal, based on the first angle, to compensate for the characteristic of the frequency modulator.

Frequency modulation in a communications network

In some implementations, a satellite gateway includes a set of modulators comprising (i) a first modulator to modulate signals for transmission using a first of multiple polarizations, and (ii) a second modulator to modulate signals for transmission using a second of the multiple polarizations. The satellite gateway includes a set of upconverters comprising at least one upconverter for each of the multiple polarizations, wherein each of the upconverters is configured to generate a radiofrequency output by concurrently upconverting multiple intermediate frequency inputs to different frequency ranges. The satellite gateway includes an intermediate frequency distribution network configured to distribute the multiple intermediate frequency output signals from each of the modulators to the inputs of the upconverters. The satellite gateway includes a set of radiofrequency switches that are operable to selectively provide the radiofrequency outputs of the upconverters to antenna feeds for the multiple polarizations.

Multi-band radiofrequency transceiver

In some implementations, a radiofrequency down converter comprises an input port to receive a radiofrequency input signal, and the down converter includes a first bandpass filter configured to filter the input signal. The down converter includes a mixer stage coupled to the bandpass filter, the mixer stage being configured to generate a mixer output signal by processing the filtered input signal using a gain adjustment device, one or more amplifiers, and a mixer. The down converter includes a signal adjustment stage coupled to receive the mixer output signal, the signal adjustment stage comprising: a temperature compensation device configured to compensate for changes in signal gain due to changes in temperature; a second bandpass filter; a gain adjustment device; one or more amplifiers; and a low pass filter. The down converter comprises an output port coupled to output an adjusted mixer output signal from the signal adjustment stage.

In some implementations, methods, systems, and apparatus, including machine-readable media storing executable instructions, are provided for switching radio frequency chains. For example, a gateway for a satellite communication system can include a first radiofrequency chain, a second radiofrequency chain, and a third radiofrequency chain configured to operate in a standby mode. The gateway includes radiofrequency switches configured to (i) switch between coupling the first radiofrequency chain and the third radiofrequency chain to a first antenna feed for the first channel, and (ii) switch between coupling the second radiofrequency chain and the third radiofrequency chain to a second antenna feed for the second channel. The gateway also includes a controller configured to monitor the status of the radiofrequency chains and, based on the monitored status, instruct the radiofrequency switches to switch between different connections of the radiofrequency chains with the antenna feeds.

Switching radiofrequency chains

Devices, systems, methods, and non-transitory media facilitate image rejection for a radio frequency signal with a wideband carrier. Wideband signals from a device may be analyzed, the wideband signals corresponding to a wideband channel. Each wideband signal may correspond to a sinusoidal electrical signal with IQ amplitude and phase modulation. An in-phase component (I) of a wideband signal may be determined. A quadrature component (Q) of the wideband signal may be determined. Based on the determined I and Q, a wideband IQ imbalance may be determined. A scalar error based on the wideband IQ imbalance may be obtained. The scalar error may be mapped to a vector error plane. Orthogonal error vector points that are based on the mapping may be determined. The wideband IQ imbalance of the device may be compensated based on adjusting an IQ setting of the device with the orthogonal error vector points.

Systems and methods for fast searching of wideband IQ modulation image rejection

In some implementations, a communication device, includes a printed circuit board comprising conductors routed to support a plurality of different configurations of modulation and/or demodulation functionality. The printed circuit board can have multiple analog output interfaces and one or more analog input interfaces, multiple digital network interfaces, and sockets for components including a controller, multiple processors, digital-to-analog converters (DACs), and an analog-to-digital converter (ADC). Various processor sockets are interconnected to support the processors in different sockets selectively being used for different functions, e.g., as a modulator, burst processor, channelizer, etc.

Configurable modem architecture for satellite communications

A microstrip-to-waveguide transition includes a substrate and a waveguide. The substrate has a metal layer, a ground layer and a dielectric layer disposed between the metal layer and a ground layer. The substrate includes a microstrip line impedance transformer and a substrate integrated waveguide that is electromagnetically coupled to the microstrip line impedance transformer. The substrate integrated waveguide has a 90 degree substrate integrated waveguide bend section at an end portion thereof. The waveguide is arranged perpendicularly relative to the substrate. The waveguide is electromagnetically coupled to the substrate integrated waveguide at the 90 degree substrate integrated waveguide bend section. The microstrip-to-waveguide transition is free of a back-short at a location corresponding to the 90 degree substrate integrated waveguide bend section.

A cooling apparatus for an electrical component housing includes a fin configured to attach to the electrical component housing so as to conduct heat and cool the electrical component housing. The fin includes a first longitudinal portion and a second longitudinal portion, a first end, and a second end portion connecting the first and second longitudinal portions at a second end, the first longitudinal portion and the second longitudinal portion being disposed at a predetermined siatnce from each other at the first end, and the second end portion having a width that is greater than the predetermined distance.

Cooling apparatus for an electrical component

An antenna module installation system comprising a baseplate and a carrier chassis. The baseplate is configured to couple to an antenna dish assembly, and comprises an antenna module mounting apparatus including an alignment portion and a retention portion. The carrier chassis is configured to retain an antenna module, such as antenna hub amplifier, and comprises an engaging apparatus. The carrier chassis is configured to allow multiple manufacturers versions of a component to be used through adapter components. The engaging apparatus is configured to engage with the alignment portion, which positions the carrier chassis in a mounting alignment, and to move from the alignment portion to the retention portion which retains the carrier chassis in engagement with the baseplate. The engaging apparatus is designed to allow that direct connections to the component in the carrier chassis are disconnected prior to its removal.

System and method for installing an antenna module in a gateway antenna

An approach includes injecting a plurality of equal amplitude tones across a frequency band. The approach also includes determining frequency response based on the injected tones, determining an imbalance parameter associated with a quadrature down-converter based on the determined frequency response; determining one or more parameters for wideband quadrature compensation based on the determined frequency response, and compensating an input signal based on the determined imbalance parameter and the determined one or more parameters for the wideband quadrature compensation.

An apparatus for providing automatic gain control for use in a satellite terminal of a satellite communication system capable of transmitting a plurality of different modes of data. The apparatus includes a demodulator circuit having an analog to digital converter; a first variable attenuator having an attenuation value set on the basis of a measured power level of a predetermined data signal; and a second variable attenuator having an attenuation value set on the basis of the mode of data being received by the satellite terminal, where each of the data modes have a corresponding predetermined attenuation value associated therewith which is utilized as the attenuation value of the second variable attenuator when the satellite terminal receives the data mode.

Method and system for automatic gain control in a satellite communications system

In a base transceiver station in a cellular network, a digital signal processor generates a baseband input signal, which is converted to analog and transmitted by a transmitter at radio frequency. In accordance with the present invention, the baseband input signal is scaled by a selected factor from a predetermined table of scaling factors. The scaling factors are determined based on measured output power characteristics of the transmitter and provide frequency compensation caused by filtering ripple and/or attenuation compensation caused by uncertainties in internal attenuators.
