An engine controller may include a processor and a feedback interface electrically coupled to the processor and one or more electric machine motor generators deployed in an aircraft engine. A memory, electrically coupled to the processor, is configured to store reference data used to indicate a presence of an icing condition. The processor is configured to monitor a feedback signal received at the feedback interface from the one or more electric machine motor generators and identify whether the feedback signal indicates that the icing condition is currently present in the aircraft engine based on a correspondence between the feedback signal and the reference data. The processor is configured to initiate an icing condition mitigation action in response to identifying that the icing condition is present.

Systems and methods are provided for a soft switching topology for a direct current (DC)-DC converter. The systems and methods determine an operational status of an electric motor, and activate at least one of an upper or lower first or second semiconductor switches based on an operation of the electric motor. The first and second switching circuits are conductively coupled to a power inverter circuit. The systems and methods include deliver an adjusted voltage to one of the power inverter circuit or a power circuit based on the operational status of the electric motor.

Systems and methods for a soft switching DC-DC converter

A magnetic unit is presented. The magnetic unit includes a magnetic core. The magnetic core includes a first limb and a second limb disposed proximate to the first limb, where a gap is formed between the first limb and the second limb. The magnetic unit further includes a first winding wound on the first limb. Moreover, the magnetic unit includes a conductive element disposed facing an outer periphery of the first winding, where the conductive element is configured to control a fringing flux generated at the gap. Further, the magnetic unit includes a heat sink operatively coupled to the conductive element, where the conductive element is further configured to transfer heat from at least one of the conductive element and the first winding to the heat sink. Moreover, a high frequency power conversion system and a method of operation of the magnetic unit is also presented.

Drive system and method of operation thereof for reducing DC link current ripple

A drive system for driving an AC electric machine includes an electric machine power converter that provides a primary current excitation vector having a magnitude and angle to drive the AC electric machine. A control system separate from or incorporated into the power converter causes the power converter to inject a carrier signal to the AC electric machine that is superimposed onto the current vector and that generates a carrier response signal that has sensitivity to magnetic alignment information of the AC electric machine at its operating point, the carrier response signal providing a measurable magnetic alignment signature of the AC electric machine. The control system causes the power converter to inject the carrier signal at an injection angle between a constant flux injection angle and a constant torque injection angle, to reduce noise and/or vibration of the AC electric machine caused by the injected carrier signal.

A conductive joining material is positioned between the first electronics package and the second electronics package to electrically connect them together. The first electronics package and the second electronics package are stacked with one another to form a half-bridge unit cell, with the half-bridge unit cell having a current path through the solid-state switching device in the first electronics package and a close coupled return current path through the solid-state switching device in the second electronics package in opposite flow directions.

The DC/DC conversion system further includes a control system configured to control the boost converter and plurality of buck converters such that combined duty cycles of the plurality of buck converters are about equal to a duty cycle of the boost converter and the duty cycles of the plurality of buck converters are modulated out of phase.

The drive system injects a carrier signal to the AC electric machine that is superimposed onto the current vector, with the carrier signal generating a carrier response signal responsive to the injected carrier signal. The drive system measures at least one magnetic alignment signature of the AC electric machine from the generated carrier response signal and controls an orientation of the current vector using the measured at least one magnetic alignment signature to operate the AC electric machine.

A system and method for leakage current detection and fault location identification in a DC power circuit is disclosed. The system includes a plurality of DC leakage current detectors positioned throughout the DC power circuit, the DC leakage current detectors configured to sense and locate a leakage current fault in the DC power circuit. Each of the DC leakage current detectors is configured to generate a net voltage at an output thereof indicative of whether a leakage current fault is present at a location at which the respective DC leakage current detector is positioned. A system and method for heating ferrite permanent magnets in an electrical machine is disclosed. The permanent magnet machine includes a stator assembly and a rotor assembly, with a plurality of ferrite permanent magnets disposed within the stator assembly or the rotor assembly to generate a magnetic field that interacts with a stator magnetic field to produce a torque. A controller of the electrical machine is programmed to cause a primary field current to be applied to the stator windings to generate the stator magnetic field, so as to cause the rotor assembly to rotate relative to the stator assembly. The controller is further programmed to cause a secondary current to be applied to the stator windings to selectively generate a secondary magnetic field, the secondary magnetic field inducing eddy currents in at least one of the stator assembly and the rotor assembly to heat the ferrite permanent magnets.
