A gas seal for a pipe joint in an exhaust system configured to receive an exhaust gas flow from internal combustion (IC) engine includes a seal element. The seal element includes an outer surface and an inner surface arranged concentrically about a first axis. The outer surface is configured to seal against a pipe of the exhaust system. The gas seal also includes a flow-guide element fixed to the seal element at the inner surface of the seal element. The flow-guide element defines an aperture having a shape configured to direct and focus the exhaust gas flow away from the first axis. An exhaust system and a vehicle having such a gas seal are also disclosed.

Exhaust gas seal

An automotive battery module with one or more battery cells and a coolant loss detection and remediation system cooperative with coolant that is configured to provide thermal management of the battery module. Coolant levels in or around the battery module may be detected, while cooperation with a controller permits corrective action in the event that a leakage of coolant is detected. The controller senses a coolant level sensor which is located in a coolant reservoir to determine when the coolant level drops below a predetermined level. When the coolant level is determined to be low, the controller reports the low level condition and takes remedial action. The controller also has a set of enablement conditions that must be satisfied before the controller senses the coolant level sensor.

Coolant loss detection and remediation in a liquid cooled battery pack

A turbocharger compressor includes a compressor housing having a housing wall that includes a shroud that defines a central air channel and a compressor inlet in fluid communication with the central channel and an inlet duct. It also includes a compressor wheel configured to draw air into the compressor inlet from the inlet duct and create a main airflow in the central air channel axially toward a compressor outlet. The compressor also includes a bypass channel that extends between an opening in the main channel located between the compressor inlet and compressor outlet proximate the compressor blades and the compressor inlet. The compressor also includes a deflector that includes a deflector surface that is configured to direct a bypass airflow in the bypass channel, and flowing in a direction from the main channel toward the compressor inlet, into the compressor inlet axially and radially inwardly toward the compressor wheel.

Compressor gas flow deflector and compressor incorporating the same

A vehicle includes a body component, a rechargeable energy storage system (RESS), a traction motor, a coolant reservoir having an inlet, and a bracket. The traction motor is electrically connected to the RESS and delivers motor torque for propelling the vehicle. A lobed cap covers the inlet. The bracket extends between the lobed cap and the body component. The bracket defines an opening having radially-inward projecting tabs, each of which engages a different axial side wall of the cap between different adjacent lobes of the lobed cap to prevent rotation and removal of the lobed cap. A method includes providing the above bracket, routing a lobed cap of a coolant reservoir through the opening after installing the cap to the reservoir such that the tabs engage a different axial side wall of the cap between different adjacent lobes of the lobed cap.

Tamperproof device for a coolant fill cap

A HVAC and RESS thermal management system and a method of operation for a vehicle having a passenger compartment, a power plant and a battery pack is disclosed. The system comprises a RESS coolant circuit and a power plant coolant circuit. The RESS coolant circuit directs a coolant through the battery pack and includes a pump, a coolant heating branch has a coolant-to-coolant heat exchanger, and a coolant routing valve that will selectively direct the coolant through the coolant heating branch. The power plant coolant circuit includes a heater core branch having a HVAC pump, a coolant heater, a heater core located in a HVAC module to provide heat to the passenger compartment, and the coolant-to-coolant heat exchanger, with the coolant-to-coolant heat exchanger providing heat transfer between the coolant in the coolant heating branch and the coolant in the heater core branch.

Vehicle HVAC and RESS thermal management

A radiator includes a neck including a pair of openings and a plurality of threads configured to engage a plurality of threads disposed within a radiator cap. The neck threads and the radiator cap threads each include a thread stop and a clearance and permit the radiator cap to rotate to a fully closed position. The clearance permits the radiator cap to move in an axial direction when not in the fully closed position without rotating from the fully closed position. The thread stops are configured prevent the radiator cap from rotating after moving axially.
