A driving apparatus, a driving method and a liquid crystal display (LCD) using the same are provided, wherein the method includes the following steps of: setting a color display sequence, wherein the color display sequence is RGBG, RGRB or RBGB; alternately reading frame data from a first frame register and a second register according to a frame period having three field periods; and sequentially displaying four color data in a cycle period having four field periods according to the color display sequence and the read frame data. By utilizing the method in the present invention, color loss of a field sequential color display occurred in a lower temperature environment is improved.

Driving apparatus, driving method and liquid crystal display using the same

A method and an apparatus for improving the gray-scale linearity of a plasma display. At least two types of gray-scale allocations are mixed for forming the original gray scale, or different gray scales are mixed to derive the original gray scale, so as to obtain the required brightness. Therefore, by using multiple combinations to adjust the original gray scale, the required brightness is obtained, and the gray scale linearity for all the gray scales is improved.

Brightness correction apparatus and method for a plasma display, where the non-linear relationship between the gray scale and the brightness of the plasma display is considered. The brightness error is measured to build up a brightness error table. When the gray scale data of the currently displaying pixel is received, the brightness error diffusion method is applied. The weighted display brightness error of the neighboring pixel is incorporated for calculation to obtain an optimal display result. When the modified output gray scale data is derived by calculation, the brightness error table is looked up, and the display brightness error of the currently displaying pixel is thus saved to provide modification calculation for other pixels.

A process of effecting various anti compensation processes on input image on a plasma display panel comprises the steps of a) performing a gamma (i.e., &#x3b3; equal to 0.45) compensation process on a video signal received by the PDP with respect to a &#x3b3;; b) dividing the video signal into at least two segments based on a gray level thereof; and c) performing a variety of anti compensation processes on the video signal in respective segment. A smaller &#x3b3; is used in the anti compensation process with respect to the video signal in a range of low gray level for increasing the gray level in the range of low gray level. Similarly, a larger &#x3b3; is used in the anti compensation process with respect to the video signal in a range of high gray level for increasing a gradient in the range of high gray level, thereby obtaining a sharp image contrast, improving image quality, and rendering an enhanced image brightness.

Method of effecting various anti compensation processes on segmented gray level of input image on plasma display panel

A driving electrode structure of a plasma display panel is described. The driving electrode structure has a driving electrode located in one luminant cell of each pixel. The driving electrode is formed on a transparent electrode and separated by a distance from the side of the transparent electrode adjacent to the edge of the luminant cells. The driving electrode has two branches coupled to a main electrode or a side electrode at the side of the transparent electrode adjacent to the edge of luminant cells. The driving electrode approximates the discharge center of the luminant cell to improve the driving characteristic.

A method for implementing error diffusion on a plasma display panel (PDP) comprises the steps of performing an anti compensation process on a received video signal of the PDP; diffusing an error generated by a first one of a plurality of pixels to a plurality of adjacent pixels; absorbing errors generated by the plurality of adjacent pixels by the first pixel; and multiplying each of a plurality of numeric weightings and the error of each of the adjacent pixels to obtain an error function of the first pixel. This is effected in a cost effective while simple addition circuit for solving the problem of low level contouring in PDP due to insufficient gray scale of video signal in low gray scale.

Each barrier rib has a plurality of discharge spaces therein divided by separate walls. A method for reducing dynamic false contour in a plasma display panel (PDP) comprising the steps of selecting gray scales of different visual concentration series from all of gray scales available to be shown on said PDP to form a visual concentration conversion table, selecting at least one of said visual concentration series as a virtual visual concentration series, and converting original input value of gray scale of each discharge unit into corresponding gray scales of different visual concentration series and virtual visual concentration series, while showing each field of a dynamic image on said PDP, in order to average visual concentration difference between gray scales of two adjacent discharge units on the dynamic field into a smaller one.

Method and apparatus for reducing dynamic false contour in plasma display panel by decreasing visual concentration difference

A compensation process for improving color saturation and image quality of a plasma display panel (PDP) is provided, wherein a brightness of light generated from each of red, green, and blue discharge cells of each pixel on said PDP is calculated through a numeric operation according to laws of color matching. The process comprises the step of increasing or decreasing the strength of input image signals of each of the red, green, and blue discharge cells in accordance with the calculation result for adjusting brightness of the generated red, green, and blue lights so as to subtract a visible light generated by gas in each of the red, green, and blue discharge cells during gas discharging, thereby eliminating an adverse effect of the visible light on color purity and color temperature of the PDP during gas discharging. This can obtain an image on PDP having an optimum color purity and color temperature and reduce the manufacturing cost.

Compensation method for improving color purity and color temperature of plasma display panel by adjusting the strength of input image signals

In an alternating current discharge type plasma display panel (PDP) a plurality of parallel barrier walls are formed on a top surface of a back substrate of the PDP and barrier walls are disposed corresponding to cross-points of X electrodes and Y electrodes on a front substrate of the PDP. A structure includes a plurality of discharge cells between the adjacent barrier walls having smaller width corresponding to the X and Y electrodes for forming a large first space, a plurality of non-discharge cells each between the adjacent discharge cells for forming a small second space served as a gas channel between the adjacent discharge cells, and a junction between one discharge cell and the adjacent non-discharge cell, such that energy released from a gas discharge in the discharge cells is concentrated within the discharge cells for increasing discharge efficiency.
