An interconnect topology that includes vertical trench routing in a substrate is disclosed. In one embodiment, the interconnect comprises a substrate having a plurality of layers including a first ground plane layer; a pair of signal conductors that form a differential signal pair, each conductor of the pair of signal conductors having a first portion and a second portion, the second portion extending from the first portion into at least one of the plurality of layers, wherein width of the second portion is less than width of the first portion; and wherein the first ground plane layer is only a first partial layer and has a first void region that is closer to the pair of signal conductors than the first partial layer.

Vertical trench routing in a substrate

Techniques and mechanisms for providing a reference potential with a flexible circuit device. In an embodiment, the flexible circuit device includes a first interconnect to exchange a signal and a second interconnect to exchange a reference potential that facilitates shielding of the signal. The first and second interconnects are variously coupled to a printed circuit board (PCB) via a first contact and a second contact of a hardware interface. During such coupling, a maximum height of the second interconnect from a side of the PCB at the hardware interface is greater than a maximum height of the first interconnect from the side of the PCB at the hardware interface. In another embodiment, a distance of the first contact from an end of the flexible circuit device is different than a distance of the second contact from the end of the flexible circuit device.

In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a substrate having a ground; a connector coupled to the substrate; a cable shielded with a conductive material and having an end connectable to the connector to electrically connect with the connector; an electrically conductive material coupled to the ground of the substrate; and a grounding retention mechanism to cause the electrically conductive material to electrically connect the cable to the ground of the substrate by applying a force to the cable shield.

An electrical connector includes a housing member and a number of contacts attached to the housing member. The contacts include a number of first contacts and second contacts arranged side by side along a transverse direction, respectively. At the mounting end of the electrical connector, a space between the grounding contact and the differential contact of each pair most adjacent to the grounding contact is much bigger than any internal space between the differential contacts of each the first or the second pair. As a result, a rear wall of the housing member can provide adequate area for easily mounting a fiber optical lens.

High density connector having two-leveled contact interface

An electrical connector includes a housing member and a number of contacts attached to the housing member. The contacts include a number of first contacts and second contacts arranged side by side along a transverse direction, respectively. The second contacts include a first pair of differential contacts, a second pair of differential contacts and a grounding contact disposed therebetween, the first contacts and the first and the second pairs of differential contacts are used for being soldered to the PCB while the grounding contact needn't be soldered to the PCB. The grounding contact includes a grounding tab to attach to the metal shell for grounding purpose. As a result, a much integral space between the first and the second contacts can be provided for receiving a fiber optical lens module.
