A data transmission interface apparatus, communicating with another data transmission interface apparatus through a digital transmission means for transmitting multimedia data, includes a processor for processing multimedia data; and a data converting circuit, coupled to the processor, for converting a plurality of first multimedia data sets generated from the processor into a plurality of second multimedia data sets; and for converting a plurality of first auxiliary data sets into a plurality of second auxiliary data sets. The first auxiliary data set and the second auxiliary data set include closed caption information.

A data transmission interface apparatus is provided for communicating with another data transmission interface apparatus through a digital transmission means specified for multimedia data transmission. The data transmission interface apparatus has at least a processor for processing multimedia data; and a data converting circuit, coupled to the processor, for converting a plurality of first multimedia data sets into a plurality of second multimedia data sets; and for converting a plurality of first auxiliary data sets into a plurality of second auxiliary data sets.

Apparatus and method of transmitting / receiving multimedia playback enhancement information, VBI data, or auxiliary data through digital transmission means specified for multimedia data transmission

An electronic circuit has a DVD-ROM controller, an MPEG decoder and a single memory controller. The DVD-ROM controller controls a Disk drive loader to obtain encoded data from a removable media, such as a DVD disk or a VCD disk. The DVD-ROM controller also performs an ECC decoding process to obtain decoded data from the encoded data, and stores the decoded data in an external memory. The MPEG decoder decodes graphics data held in the external memory to generate video data and audio data. The memory controller provides read and write access to the external memory for both the DVD-ROM controller and the MPEG decoder. The MPEG decoder performs an MPEG decoding process on the decoded data held in the external memory to generate the video data.

DVD-ROM controller and MPEG decoder with shared memory controller

A memory access interface for connecting a memory to a micro-controller having an address/data multiplexing bus and a microprocessor is proposed. The memory access interface includes an address latch, a multiplexer, and a data buffer. The address latch latches and outputs the lower-bit address signal on the address/data multiplexing bus of the micro-controller when an address-latch-enable signal is enabled. The multiplexer receives the lower-bit address signal latched by the address latch, a higher-bit address signal outputted from the micro-controller, and an address signal outputted from the microprocessor and selectively outputs the address signal of the micro-controller or the address signal of the microprocessor as the address signal of the memory according to a first control signal. The data buffer transmits the signal of the data bus of the memory to the address/data multiplexing bus of the micro-controller during a data cycle of the micro-controller, and maintains a high impedance state during an address cycle of the micro-controller.
