A computer system interacts with a mobile device to support the needs of remote users and may leverage e-ink technology so that a mobile user can access, manage and read documents without being tethered. The mobile device allows for both user-initiated downloads from a corporate entity as well as corporate pushes by the corporate entity to ensure that the user has updated content. The computer system receives a request for selected electronic content, where the request includes updated configuration information and user identification. The computer system then maps the user identification to a device type from a plurality of device types. Embodiments support different device types including electronic ink display capable devices. The selected electronic content is then downloaded to the mobile device. Subsequently, the computer system pushes updated versions of the selected electronic content based on the updated configuration information.

Mobile content management

A mobile implementation channel enables secure mobile customer alerts, content delivery, event and location awareness and context integration that can be leveraged across multiple lines of business using basic interfaces. Pushed documents may be processed by an application executing at a mobile device in a secure manner. An alert indication may be sent to the mobile device when the documents are available. The documents may then be downloaded over a secure channel if the user affirmatively responds to the alert indication and may be further encrypted and stored in an application file store. The user may subsequently select one of the documents from a document list so that the selected document may be decrypted and displayed. The stored documents in the application file store may be deleted if the operating system has been compromised, the user is not associated with a business, or the user device is lost or stolen.

Integration of different mobile device types with a business infrastructure

The mobile implementation channel enables secure reach to many mobile device types, abstracts away delivery peculiarities, and provides logging and security support when necessary taking into account who the individual is, where they are, and what they may be doing. A business infrastructure that is associated with a workflow generates a request to a computer system that subsequently maps the user identification to a device type from a plurality of device types and directs the request to a device based on the device type. The request may include content that may be formatted in accordance with the device type and that may be pushed to a device at a desired time or frequency.

A system pushes documents to one or more wireless data devices. The system receives a push request from a user to push a specified document to one or more identified wireless data devices. The system then constructs a wireless gateway server request for each identified wireless data device, and the document is subsequently pushed to the devices.

Pushing documents to wireless data devices

A system for pushing data to a wireless data device receives an identifier for the wireless data device and determines a corresponding gateway server by querying a mapping of wireless data device identifiers to wireless gateway servers. The system then submits a request to push the data to the wireless data device via the determined gateway server. If the gateway server rejects the request to push data to the wireless data device, the system repeatedly submits requests to push data to the wireless data device via a different gateway server until the request is accepted. The system then updates the mapping for the identifier of the wireless data device with the different gateway server which accepted the request to push data to the wireless data device.
