A system is provided that monitors at the wellsite injection of additives into formation fluids recovered through wellbores and controls the supply of such additives from remote locations. A pump supplies the selected additive from a source at the wellsite into the wellbore via a suitable supply line. A flow meter in the supply line measures the flow rate of the additive through the supply line and generates signals representative of the flow rate. A controller at the wellsite determines the flow rate from the flow meter signals and in response thereto controls the pump to control the flow rate of the additive to the well. The wellsite controller interfaces with a suitable two-way communication link and transmits signals and data representative of the flow rate, and other parameters to a second remote controller. The remote controller transmits command signals to the wellsite controller representative of any change desired for the flow rate. The wellsite controller is microprocessor based and may be programmed at the wellsite or by the remote controller to adjust the flow rate. The system of the present invention may be configured for multiple wells, with each well having a separate wellsite controller or a common wellsite controller.

Closed loop additive injection and monitoring system for oilfield operations

A chemical injection pump for injecting chemicals into subsea system at depths up to 10,000 feet is described which uses a minimum of moving parts by employing an actuator, for instance a solenoid, to power a double acting actuator rod and plungers thereon. The pump would generate low pressures and low fluid volumes, but be more durable and reliable than conventional rotating pumps operating under subsea conditions.

Subsea chemical injection pump

A system for monitoring foaming or carry over, at a well site, of a formation fluid by taking a sample of the gas exiting from a high-pressure separator and either measuring the density of the sample or measuring the amount of oil particles present. A correlation of the density or optical density with a level of foaming is made and a signal is transmitted to a device to control the supply of at least one additive to control the foaming.

Foam monitoring and control system

The present invention provides a system and method for in-situ monitoring of corrosion in a conduit which carries fluids that have corrosive effects on the materials utilized for the conduit and/or equipment disposed in the conduit. The conduit may include a well carrying hydrocarbons from subsurface formations or a pipeline transporting hydrocarbons. A cable of sufficient length having a conductor that is susceptible to the corrosive effects of the fluids in the conduit is deployed along a length of the conduit. The conductor is exposed to the fluid continuously or at selected spaced apart locations. The distance of each of the exposed locations from an accessible end is known. A signal generator coupled to the cable induces a pulsed signal into the cable. The transmitted signals are reflected by location on the cable where the impedance differs from the normal impedance. Such locations include each of the exposed conductor locations and the termination point. The reflected signals are received by a receiver and then processed and analyzed by a processor to determine the extent of the corrosion at each of the exposed locations. This information is then used to estimate the nature and extent of the corrosion of components in the wellbore or the pipeline, as the case may be. The cable may be a single conductor cable or a twisted pair of wires, each having a known impedance per unit length.
