A method and apparatus receive first control data associated with a first device, using a radio frequency transceiver and store the first control data in a memory. The method and apparatus detect selection of an operational function of the first device through an interface and use a processor to access the memory for control data corresponding to the operational function. The method and apparatus transmit the control data corresponding to the operational function to control the first device.

Remote control system

A method and system for detecting a presence of a conductive object proximate to a capacitive sense element during an initialization process of a touch-sensing device. A capacitance sensing circuit measures a reference capacitance of a reference sense element. A sensing parameter of the capacitance sensing circuit is iteratively adjusted to obtain a target measurement output value for the reference sense element. With the sensing parameter set to the sensing parameter value, the capacitance measurement circuit measures a first capacitance of a first sense element. A first capacitance difference value is determined between the first capacitance and a first baseline capacitance value for the first sense element. A presence of a conductive object is detected proximate to the first sense element when the first capacitance difference value exceeds a threshold value.

Detection of a conductive object during an initialization process of a touch-sensing device

An example system includes a remote control and a host device. The remote control is configured to communication through a first communication interface and a second communication interface. The host device is configured to retrieve command information from a remote computer through a third communication interface, and responsive to one or more requests from the remote control, to transfer the command information to the remote control through the first communication interface, the remote control configured to control a plurality of remote devices through the second communication interface, using the command information.

A method and system for detecting a presence of a conductive object proximate to a capacitive sense element during an initialization process of a touch-sensing device. A reference sense element is calibrated to produce a sensing parameter value. A capacitance of a plurality of capacitive sense elements is measured based on the sensing parameter value, and compared to a baseline capacitance value stored in a non-volatile memory of the touch-sensing device. The presence of a conductive object proximate to a capacitive sense element is detected when a difference between the measured capacitance and the stored baseline capacitance value is greater than a threshold value.

The invention provides an improved remote control system utilizing a host device to configure a single remote control via a first communications link, wherein the remote control operates a plurality of devices via a second communications link.
