An apparatus and method for terminating a multi-stranded, non-parallel cable. An anchor is provided on the end of each strand. A collector is provided to link the anchors and connected strands into a single unit. An alignment fixture is provided to transition the strands from the non-parallel lay within the cable to a parallel path adjacent to the anchors.

Method of terminating a stranded synthetic filament cable

Systems and methods of deploying seismic data acquisition units from a marine vessel are disclosed. The system can include a spindle coupled to a tether. A robotic arm can couple the spindle to a tether via one or more tumblers. The tether can connect to a seismic data acquisition unit via a connection block having a mechanical force device. The assembled spindle, tether and seismic data acquisition unit can be deployed from the deck via a deployment block.

Back deck automation

A method for straightening, constraining, cutting and terminating a multi-stranded, non-parallel cable. The method includes: (1) dividing the cable into smaller components which are in the size range suitable for the prior art termination technology; (2) creating a termination on the end of each of the smaller components; (3) providing a collector which reassembles the individual terminations back into a single unit; and (4) maintaining alignment between the terminations and the smaller components while the terminations and the collector are in a connected state.

A self-retracting extension limiting device. It is designed to be attached between a first object and a second object, where the distance between the first and second objects is variable. The device exerts a restoring force tending to draw the two objects together. A first, relatively weak restoring force is exerted over a range of distance. Then, when the objects have been separated to a defined limit of travel, the device exerts a much greater restoring force. The invention includes overlapping and self-contained elements so that unwanted slack is minimized.

Self-retracting extension limiting device

A load pin and clevis joint for joining two or more mechanical components together. The load pin includes a retention feature that requires two separate motions to unlock the pin. In a locked state, the load pin is secured across both halves of a clevis joint so that it completely spans an open span between the two clevis halves. In the preferred embodiment, the two motions required to unlock the load pin are (1) moving the load pin linearly; and (2) rotating the load pin.

A binder is then applied to the cable to maintain the alignment. The cable is then cut to a desired length. Each strand or group of strands is then placed in an individual termination. Each individual termination is then attached&#x2014;either directly or through intermediate devices&#x2014;to a collector.
