An apparatus includes a spatial light modulator (SLM) having a first region and a second region and a phase light modulator (PLM) optically coupled to the SLM. The PLM is configured to receive first light having a first color and receive second light having a second color, the second color different than the first color. The PLM is also configured to direct the first light towards the first region of the SLM and direct the second light towards the second region of the SLM.

Scrolling laser illumination with a phase light modulator

Methods and apparatus to render 3D content within a moveable region of a display screen. An example apparatus includes a projection system controller adapted to be coupled to a light source and to be optically coupled to a screen panel, the projection system controller configured to determine a location of a region within a viewing area of the screen panel to display content. The region is to be smaller than the viewing area. The location of the region is to move within the viewing area to track a motion path, the content including different stereoscopic views. The projection system controller configured to activate the light source to project light corresponding to the content toward the region. The screen panel includes a light redirecting surface to produce a 3D light field associated with the different stereoscopic views.

Methods and apparatus to render 3D content within a moveable region of display screen

A display device includes laser light sources configured to emit respective light beams at respective wavelengths for respective color modes, a PLM configured to reflect and scroll the light beams on a projection surface, and lenses configured to project the light beams from the laser light sources onto respective nonoverlapping areas on the PLM.

A system having a color filter having first and second segments. The first and second segments allow respective first and second wavelengths to pass through to a spatial light modulator. The first and second segments also reflect second and first wavelengths, respectively. The reflected first and second wavelengths are recycled and directed towards the color filter.

Digital display system and method

A system includes: a phosphor configured to receive first light having a first color, to produce second light having a second color responsive to the first light, and to transmit at least a first portion of the first light; a color wheel comprising a first colored segment configured to transmit light having a third color and a second colored segment configured to transmit light having a fourth color; a light tunnel optically coupled between the phosphor and the color wheel configured to transmit combined light including least a portion of the first light and the second light; wherein the first segment is configured to transmit the third color as first transmitted light and the second segment to transmit light of the fourth color as second transmitted light; and a spatial light modulator configured to modulate the first transmitted light and the second transmitted light.

Solid state illumination for optical projector using static phosphors

An apparatus includes an image sensor, a linear actuator, a projector coupled to the linear actuator, and a controller coupled to the image sensor and to the linear actuator. The controller is configured to determine a location of an eye of a user based on image data from the image sensor. The controller is further configured to activate the linear actuator to drive the projector to a position associated with projecting to the eye at the location. The controller is further configured to initiate projection, via the projector, of an image depicting a view of a three-dimensional scene, the image selected based on the location.

Linearly actuated display

A method includes determining a first location, within a first viewing window, of a first eye of a user based on image data from an image sensor. The first viewing window corresponds to a first projector of a plurality of projectors. The method further includes determining a second location, within a second viewing window, of a second eye of the user based on the image data. The second viewing window corresponds to a second projector of the plurality of projectors. The method further includes initiating projection, via the first projector, of a first image depicting a first view of a three-dimensional scene. The first image is selected based on the first location. The method further includes initiating projection, via the second projector, of a second image depicting a second view of the three-dimensional scene. The second image is selected based on the second location.

System and method for enhanced motion parallax in a 3D display

A device and method of forming the device that includes a first substrate having a cavity on a bottom surface of the first substrate and MEMS components formed on the first substrate and in the cavity; a second substrate having an upper surface; a first metal bond that extends around a perimeter of the cavity and forming a first connection between the bottom surface of first substrate and the upper surface of the second substrate; a second metal bond that extends around a perimeter of the first metal bond and spaced from the first metal bond, the second metal bond forming a second connection between the bottom surface of the first substrate and the upper surface of the second substrate; where the MEMS components are hermetically sealed between the first and second substrates. A getter agent can be between the first and second metal bonds.
