An apparatus including a set of three illumination sources disposed in a first plane. Each of the set of three illumination sources is disposed at a position in the first plane offset from others of the set of three illumination sources by 120 degrees measured in polar coordinates. The apparatus also includes a set of three waveguide layers disposed adjacent the set of three illumination sources. Each of the set of three waveguide layers includes an incoupling diffractive element disposed at a lateral position offset by 180 degrees from a corresponding illumination source of the set of three illumination sources.

A biological analysis system can include an excitation module and an emission module. The excitation module can include a collimator element for receiving excitation light from the excitation light source and transmitting collimated excitation light in a first direction, and a plurality of excitation mirrors arrayed along the excitation light path, each excitation mirror disposed at an acute angle relative to the first direction and configured to reflect collimated excitation light along a second direction. The emission module can be positioned to receive excitation light transmitted along the second direction and can include a sample block comprising a plurality of sample receptacles positioned to receive a beam of collimated excitation light, and a plurality of photodetectors configured to receive emission light transmitted from a respective sample receptacle in a direction transverse to the second direction of the excitation light path.

The invention relates to a projector module. In particular, the invention relates to a projector module for the use in mobile devices, wherein a most compact, stable and reliable module structure with high module efficiency can be achieved. Ultra-compact, highly stable projector modules

An optical combiner includes a curved reflective element and a rotating mirror configured to rotate through a range of angular displacement. During a first time period, the curved reflective element is configured to reflect a first light beam emitted from a first light source to the rotating mirror when the rotating mirror is disposed at a first angular displacement, and the rotating mirror is configured to receive the first reflected light beam and provide a first output light beam along an output optical axis. During a second time period, the curved reflective element is configured to reflect a second light beam emitted from a second light source to the rotating mirror when the rotating mirror is disposed at a second angular displacement, and the rotating mirror is configured to receive the second reflected light beam and provide a second output light beam along the output optical axis.

An optical combiner includes a rotating mirror configured to rotate through a range of angular displacement. During a first time period, the rotating mirror is disposed at a first angular displacement, and is configured to receive a first incident light beam and provide a first output light beam along an output optical axis. The invention relates to a contact lens for a head-mounted display, HMD, comprising a lens body configured for application to the surface of a contact lens wearer's eye, wherein the lens body has a central optically transparent region, wherein the optically transparent region is composed of a plurality of concentric rings of increasing diameter, wherein in the radial direction each concentric ring is configured either as a Fresnel zone or as a simple lens portion, wherein Fresnel zones and simple lens portions alternate with one another, wherein the Fresnel zones are configured for sharp retinal imaging of image data presented at a fixed distance in front of the surface of the eye, wherein the simple lens portions are configured for sharp retinal imaging of the distance and near vision zones of the contact lens wearer. The invention further relates to an HMD, in which a contact lens according to the invention is used for visualization of variable image data presented in a display at a fixed distance in front of the surface of the eye.
