A method of detecting an event and recording quantitative parameters associated with the event is provided. The method includes securing an event detection and recording system on a piece of equipment, the event detection and recording system comprising a plurality of sensors, an internal power source, and a microcontroller. The method further includes activating a low monitoring mode and measuring one or more quantitative parameters with the one or more of the sensors at a first sampling rate to generate low monitoring mode sensor data; analyzing the low monitoring mode sensor data to detect initiation of a triggering event; terminating the low monitoring mode upon detection of the triggering event; and activating a high monitoring mode including measuring and recording one or more quantitative parameters at a second sampling rate, where the second sampling rate is greater than the first sampling rate. The associated system is also provided.

Event detection sensor and recording system

Mattresses for human stabilization may include a mass of foam material. A cover including a fabric material may at least partially surrounding the mass of foam material. Head blocks including a foam material may be located proximate to one end of the mattress. The fabric material of the cover may at least partially cover the head blocks, and the head blocks may be foldable relative to the mass of foam material to enable the head blocks to be positioned against lateral sides of a person's head. Human stabilization platforms may include a litter having a surface sized and shaped to support a person thereabove. Straps may be configured to restrain a person's head, the straps having releasable connectors at ends thereof. A track may be located on the surface of the litter, and may be configured to receive the connectors to affix the straps to the litter.

Methods of producing a carbon matrix composite are provided which include preparing a carbon matrix composite precursor comprising at least one carbon-based reinforcement material and a cured thermoset polymer matrix comprising a chemical composition in accordance with Formula I where n and m are integers, at least one of Ror Rcomprises an aromatic moiety, and X is selected from the group consisting of CH, NH, O, S, SO, and combinations thereof. The methods further include heating the carbon matrix composite precursor in air to a first processing temperature of between 300&#xb0; C. and 500&#xb0; C. to form a carbon matrix composite intermediate, and heating the carbon matrix composite intermediate in nitrogen to a second processing temperature of between 900&#xb0; C. to 1650&#xb0; C. and holding at the second processing temperature for at least 1 hour in an inert gas environment to form the carbon matrix composite.

Method of making carbon matrix composite from high temperature polymer matrix fiber-reinforced composites

A health monitoring garment is provided. The health monitoring garment includes an article of clothing comprising at least one compression section to provide a snug fit against a person wearing the article of clothing and a sensor island. The sensor island includes stretchable circuitry, two or more sensors, one or more power supplies, and optionally one or more wireless communication modules within a self-contained unit. At least one of the sensors comprises a stretchable sensor which may be a respiration sensor. The sensor unit may be provided independent of the health monitoring garment or as a complete system. The sensor island and compression section of the article of clothing also include fasteners of complementary geometries for reversible attachment and disengagement of the sensor island from the compression section.

Human stabilization platforms may include a support structure configured to rigidly support a person. A rail may extend longitudinally from proximate a portion of the support structure configured to receive the person's head thereon to proximate a portion of the support structure configured to receive the person's lower legs thereon on each lateral side of the support structure. Each rail may include selectable attachment structures distributed along at least a portion of the longitudinal length of the rail. The selectable attachment structures may be configured to receive modular accessories to be secured to the human stabilization platform. The selectable attachment structures may include a channel including alternating enlarged sections and constricted sections.

Human stabilization platforms and related methods

Human stabilization platforms may include a support structure configured to rigidly support a person. A rail may extend longitudinally from proximate a portion of the support structure configured to receive the person's head thereon to proximate a portion of the support structure configured to receive the person's lower legs thereon on each lateral side of the support structure. Each rail may include selectable attachment structures distributed along at least a portion of the longitudinal length of the rail. The selectable attachment structures may be configured to receive modular accessories to be secured to the human stabilization platform. A handle may be located at each end of each rail, each handle being rotatable with respect to the rail. Each handle may be configured to enable manual handling and transport of the human stabilization platform.

Head-and-neck immobilization devices may include a yoke sized and shaped to contact a person's back and shoulders. Straps may extend from the yoke, the straps configured to secure the yoke to the person's torso. Two head immobilization pads may be sized and shaped to respectively contact opposing sides of the person's head, each of the two head immobilization pads connected to the yoke by a respective selectively rotatable, selectively rigid connection. A majority of the person's head may remain unobstructed by the head-and-neck immobilization device when the two head immobilization pads contact the two opposing sides of the person's head and are rigidly secured in place to immobilize the person's neck and head.

Methods for using a reusable quick release fastener system include engaging and disengaging fastening devices composed of elastomers or shape memory polymers and their composites wherein the fastening devices may be of any number of geometrical shapes such that the mating geometries of each device are compatible with one another. The fastening devices provide an easy and near silent closure mechanism for a container, for example. Thus, the methods for using reusable quick release fastener systems including the fastening devices made of elastomers or shape memory polymers can be used to attach one part to another or to quietly close a pocket, box, or other container, for example.

Methods for using a reusable quick release fastener system

A method and apparatus for removing a SMP apparatus from within a cured composite part. The method may comprise the steps of triggering the SMP apparatus from a rigid state to a malleable state, inducing a pressure differential that drives the SMP apparatus, in the malleable state, away from the cured composite part and toward an inner mandrel tool, and removing the inner mandrel tool with the SMP apparatus resting thereon out of the cured composite part. The inner mandrel tool may comprise an outer surface having varying contours such that a surface area of the outer surface is great enough to prevent the SMP apparatus from folding over onto itself or creasing when driven toward the inner mandrel tool. A maximum straight line distance between points on the outer surface may be small enough to allow the inner mandrel tool clearance for removal from the cured composite part.

Embodiments of the present airfoil systems comprise an airfoil with a leading edge, a trailing edge, an upper surface, a lower surface, and a skin surface, at least one structural element located within said airfoil, wherein said structural element supports the skin surface having an upper skin portion and a lower skin portion wherein said structural element can change its shape in response to external stimulus during flight operations, and an actuating means for selectively altering the curvature of said structural element which alters the curvature of said upper skin portion and of said lower skin portion to cause nonlinear deflection of said skin surface between an extreme raised position through a neutral position to an extreme lowered position; whereby the outer surface curvature of said airfoil and said skin surface is smooth and continuous over substantially the entirety thereof at all positions of said skin surface.
