A method for optimizing a jitter buffer includes receiving a first request to establish a video conference communication session with a remote endpoint. The method also includes sending a second request to a first network location for latency information for packet communications sent from a second network location. The method further includes receiving from the first network location the latency information for packet communications sent from the second network location. Additionally, the method includes setting a jitter buffer for the video conference communication session based on the latency information for packet communications sent from the second network location.

Method and system for optimizing a jitter buffer

A system and method for displaying participants in a videoconference between locations includes receiving a plurality of video signals from at least two cameras located at one or more remote sites. A display position is assigned for each video signal. The video signals are displayed on one or more displays. The display positions for the video signals maintain a fixed display position relative to each other video signal on the displays during the videoconference, and a number of displays is less than a number of cameras at the remote sites.

System and method for displaying participants in a videoconference between locations

According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method for displaying a videoconference includes receiving a first video feed. The first video feed includes a first plurality of video signals, each video signal from at least one source and originating from one or more sites. The method also includes assigning for a videoconference each video signal of the first plurality of video signals to a zone of a plurality of zones of a display window. Each zone of the plurality of zones is able to display one video signal at a time. The method further includes, for each zone of the plurality of zones of the display window to which more than one video signal has been assigned, switching the current video signal to be displayed in the zone to another video signal assigned to the zone based on a switching protocol.

System and method for displaying a videoconference

A method for displaying a visual conference includes receiving a plurality of video signals from at least two cameras located at one or more remote sites. The method also includes assigning each video signal to a respective display of a plurality of displays at a local site for the duration of a visual conference. At least one of the plurality of displays has more than one video signal assigned thereto. The method further includes selecting, for each of the at least one of the plurality of displays having more than one video signal assigned thereto, a video signal of the more than one video signal assigned to the display. The method also includes displaying each selected video signal on its respective display.
