Apparatus embodiments of the invention are disclosed for requesting power via a wired interface. In example embodiments, a pull-down circuit in the apparatus acting as a power consumer when there is no energy in the apparatus, is connected via a configuration line over a cable to a power provider device. The apparatus may be in a power down mode, it may have an empty battery, or it may have no battery. The pull-down circuit is configured to use energy from the configuration line to pull down a voltage on the configuration line, to signal the power provider device to provide power over another line of the cable to the apparatus.

Pull-down circuitry for an apparatus

Methods and apparatuses, including computer program code are disclosed herein that provide adaptive battery protection. A method includes disabling a timer, when a current drawn by a battery-powered device from a battery is less than or equal to a lower current threshold. When the timer is disabled, the battery may remain connected to the battery-powered device. The method further includes enabling the timer when the current drawn from the battery is greater than the lower current threshold and less than an extended current threshold. When the timer is enabled, the timer may allow the battery to remain connected to the battery-powered device until the timer expires. The method further includes disconnecting the battery when the timer expires or when the current drawn from the battery exceeds the extended current threshold.

Adaptive battery protection

Example method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments are disclosed to enable remote wireless powering and control of an electronic device. Example embodiments of the invention include a method comprising the steps of detecting received power in a wireless power receiver of a device; determining to turn on the device in response to detecting the power; and sending information through a control interface to cause an information processing operation to be performed.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product for remote wireless powering and control of an electronic device

An apparatus includes a hardware unit having an interface to a clock generator, an interface to a power supply and an interface to a software unit. The interface to the software unit is configurable to receive a request from the software unit that identifies at least one operating point for the apparatus. The hardware unit is operable to control at least one of the clock generator and the power supply so as to achieve the requested operating point.
