Medical systems and methods for making and using medical systems are disclosed. Example medical systems may include an atherectomy system configured to engage and remove plaque from walls in vessels of a vascular system. The atherectomy system may include a drive shaft, a rotational tip coupled to an end of the drive shaft, a drive mechanism coupled to the drive shaft to rotate the rotational tip, and control configurations to control settings of operational modules of the atherectomy system. The control configurations may be configured to change settings of multiple operational modules of the atherectomy system in response to a single actuation of an actuator to facilitate use of the atherectomy system in a vasculature of a patient.

Rotational medical device

An atherectomy system includes a handle having a handle housing and a drive motor that is disposed within the handle housing and is adapted to rotate a drive cable extending through the handle and operably coupled to an atherectomy burr. A supply line extends from the handle housing. A supply line fitment may be disposed relative to the handle housing and may be configured to releasably secure the supply line relative to the handle housing such that the supply line is directed away from the handle housing in a direction that is selected from two or more directions.

A multi-section tubular member including a sleeve surrounding and bridging a joint between a first section and a second section of the tubular member, and a method of forming a multi-section tubular member are disclosed. A polymeric sleeve may extend over a portion of the first section and an adjoining portion of the second section. A length of heat shrink tubing may be placed over the sleeve and heated, thereby compressing the heat shrink tubing around the sleeve. The sleeve may then be thermally bonded to each of the first section and the second section. The heat shrink tubing may then be removed, leaving the sleeve securely joining the first section and the second section to form a multi-section tubular member.

Catheter having a multi-section tubular member and method of making the same

A process and apparatus is provided for forming a fusion bond between two materials. The process begins by forming a bond site by positioning a portion of a first body with respect to a portion of a second body. The first and second bodies may be components of a medical device such as a catheter, for example. At least one collimated beam of electromagnetic energy is generated and directed onto portions of the first and second bodies within the bond site so that at least one fusion zone having an increased temperature is formed.

A medical device comprising a support member adjacent to a first member and a second member, the first and second members may be laser welded to one another by directing radiation absorbable by the first and second members at the first and second members. The support member is provided adjacent to the first member and is constructed and arranged to substantially reflect or substantially transmit radiation at one or more frequencies absorbable by at least one of the first member and the second member.
